The end of the season is inching ever closer and that means it is almost time to start the bloodletting in Philadelphia.
Everyone is operating under the assumption that Andy Reid is going to be fired as soon as the year comes to an end and it won’t be long before members of the roster start following him out the door. One of the players to watch on that front is cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, whose first two years in Philly have not been the rousing success the team expected them to be when they signed him to a five-year, $60 million deal as a free agent.
Asomugha hasn’t talked much about his future this season, but he did address the topic on Wednesday. He said he wants his future to be with the Eagles.
“Yeah, I mean, all I can say right now is I really wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” Asomugha said, via CSNPhilly.com. “I definitely want to be back here.”
Asomugha is due to make $15 million next season, but, as Florio reported last month, only $4 million of that is guaranteed and only that $4 million would count against the cap if they parted ways. Asomugha was asked if he’d renegotiate his salary in order to stay with the team, which he mostly evaded without ruling anything out.
It’s hard to speculate on much without knowing who will be making the calls in Philly heading into 2013, but one of their first orders of business will likely be sorting out Asomugha’s role (or lack thereof) on the team.
