The Seahawks will be down a member of their defensive line rotation for Sunday’s game against the 49ers.

And for as many games as they play after that one as well. The team has placed defensive lineman Jason Jones on injured reserve. The exact injury wasn’t disclosed, but Jones had knee surgery before the season and was listed as having missed practice because of his knee on Wednesday so we’ll go with that as the reason for his season getting cut short.

Jones, who signed with the team as a free agent before the season after spending his first four seasons with the Titans. Jones did his best work on passing downs this year and had three sacks before being shut down for the season. His loss comes while the status of starting defensive tackle Alan Branch is still up in the air for this week because of an ankle injury that kept him out of practice on Wednesday.

The Seahawks promoted defensive tackle Hebron Fangupo from the practice squad to take Jones’ place on the roster. Fangupo and rookie Jaye Howard, who has played one game this year, could be pressed into action if the Seahawks are missing Branch as they try to stop the 49ers from winning their second straight division title.
