With the Green Bay Packers running game finally starting to find some consistency, the team is hopeful they can regain another weapon in the backfield when the playoffs begin in three weeks.

According to Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy believes running back James Starks is on pace to return for the postseason from a knee injury suffered three weeks ago.

“That’s what the medical staff is telling me,” McCarthy said. “Starks’ situation is to hopefully get him back for the playoffs. That was a decision that was made a few weeks ago.”

Starks has missed the last two games for the Packers after suffering a bone bruise on his knee against the Minnesota Vikings on Dec. 2. The Packers running game has struggled throughout the season before starting to find productions over the last six weeks. Per Dunne, the Packers are averaging 132 yards a game on the ground, good for ninth best in the league over that span.

Starks said he’s progressing and believes he will be able to return for the playoffs.

“It’s a lot better,” Starks said. “Just how I was bent, when you look at it, it looked a lot worse.”

For the season, Starks has appeared in six games for Green Bay. He has 71 carries for 255 yards and a touchdown.

  1. Guy is honestly just not a good football player. I like that Green kid a lot more than him, he at least looks like he possesses some type of skill set. Great blocker too.

Um…seems to me if the running game has been 9th best the past 6 games they have not “struggled throughout the season” since 6 games represents about half the season to this point. Right?

  3. Ya mean the guy that rose to the occassion and was a major factor in their Super Bowl win just two yrs ago? Not saying he’s near the calibre that Peterson is, but he has one more Super Bowl ring than the Vikings do…………and the Eagles!!

  4. It is amazing how great that Packers roster is!!

Hey veence, Starks has more post season rushing yards than some guy named peterson.; and it appears Starks will be widening his lead.

  5. It took the 1st half of the Seattle Game and the 2nd half of the Colts game for Mike to realize, “Hey, teams are loading up against the pass – let’s run it!”
