Don’t waste anything above a 3rd rounder on this kid. Great arm (see Kyle Boller), but he might never become an efficient QB.

Cowboys in the 3rd round is ideal. 3 years of learning will be just in time for Romo’s new guaranteed cap money to run out, along with Jerry Jones’ patience.

I disagree, the kids not even 21 yet, of course he’s immature. However he has prototypical size and arm strength, and remember this kid came out of nowhere to place 2nd in the elite 11 passing combine. He will preform well at the NFL combine. Someone will draft him in the first round……

He may very well be thinking, why take another pounding for another year in college. Might as well try to cash an NFL paycheck in a “down year” for QBs in the draft. Time will tell if it’s a good move or a bad one, obviously, but I doubt he loses anything by coming out early. Another year at UT won’t change his stock much.

No he didn’t, not even close. He played in 7 games in 2011. Although I would argue mentally he has yet to play in many games at all. He is a head case for sure and has a lot of growing up to do in the NFL.

Considering that his top 2 WR’s are turning pro, his 3rd WR and top TE are graduating plus with a new coaching staff who runs an offense which requires a dual threat QB instead of a pro style QB. After studying the facts, he is making the correct decision in my opinion.
I see him as a 3rd round quarterback who needs a year to develop his footwork and accuracy. Honestly, Matt Barkley and Geno Smith have 2nd round grades so Tyler and Mike Glennon might be battling for the 3rd QB spot in the top 5 of the draft.

All the comments above on accuracy, decision making and durability are spot on. As a Tennessee Alum, I watched most of his games at UT and he can be very erratic at times. His off campus immaturity has continued to be a problem the whole way. One other thing that will be a real hindrance to him at the next level is his tendency toward mechanical breakdowns when under pressure. But I guess he wants to get paid to fix these problems.

Same story I heard about Gabbert: prototypical size for NFL QB, big arm, needs work…

All great “intangibles” except Bray is coming from a loser of a program. He’ll have no clue how to come in and lead a team to a winner.

That being said, Gene probably likes him so he can use the “rebuilding with a rookie QB” excuse to stay in his comfy chair for a while.

In a Aaron Rodgers type situation where he can sit for 2 or 3 years giving him a chance to grow up he could be a GREAT pick. I like what I saw from him in TN, he’s just very raw and immature.

Perhaps Denver is the ideal situation for this kid, give him 3 years under Manning until he retires.

The 2013 NFL Draft is full of 3rd round draft grade quarterbacks who need a year or two to develop. Any teams who drafts a quarterback in the first round is making a big mistake.

I’m a Vols fan & while I liked this kid as the Vols QB, there are too many question marks to take him with anything higher than a low 2nd round pick. The better prospects from UT are the WRs Hunter & Patterson.

Appears somebody might not doing so well academically or is getting some bad advice.
Unless he gets injured, his stock can rise with some maturity, worse case; it stays the same.
Unless he knows he’s going to be ineligible for next year, why come out?
Unless it’s the poor pool of QB’s this draft.

I dont think he would go in the first. I think teams know this is not the year to take a QB. But…maybe a hungry team takes a chance.

Very good prospect, but the accuracy is definitely an issue. Ive watched some of his games, and he reminds me a lot in the accuracy department of Donovan McNabb. He can make some throws that make you say wow…and then other throws that make you say what the hell?

I would think he goes early second to a team that can have him as a project for a few years. Maybe a team like the Pats.
