ReutersFew players will even lie about feeling good this time of year.
For Cowboys outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware, the bar is significantly lower.
“I’m feeling good enough to play on Sunday, so that’s good,” Ware said, via Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com.
He’ll play his 127th straight game Sunday against the Saints, and he’ll do it with a growing list of problems.
Between fighting through a stinger, as well as right shoulder and right elbow problems (he’s still wearing a brace for that), Ware has been far from 100 percent.
His 11.5 sacks leads the team, but he only has 2.5 sacks over the past six games.
“It’s not like I’m limited,” Ware said of the elbow brace. “It’s more for protection to make sure it doesn’t get hyperextended again. . . .
“I haven’t played through the [number of] injuries I’ve had but you see a lot of guys on the team that are banged up or not playing. If you can get out there and make some plays and play consistent still with the injuries you have, you’ve got to look at it that way.”
Seeing elite players like Ware limp to the finish line is admirable, but also exposes the lunacy of an 18-game regular season, at least with rosters at their current 53-man limits.
