Cowher inherited a team that was considered to be completely irrelevant in 1992. His first game of his coaching career ended with a win in Houston as a 10-point underdog en route to that season’s AFC Central Division title.
He then coached the Steelers to six consecutive playoff berths, including to a Super Bowl in just his fourth season.
Tomlin’s teams have missed the playoffs twice in his first six seasons.
The only team that Cowher’s Steelers “should’ve” but didn’t defeat in an AFC title game was San Diego in 1994. His other AFC title-game losses were to John Elway’s Broncos (twice) and Tom Brady’s Patriots (twice).
Cowher ended his Steelers coaching career with a 161-99-1 record. Get back to me when Tomlin equals Cowher’s career.

The overly conservative offense designed to protect Ben from injury just handcuffed him and took away the things that make him successful, and didn’t protect him from being hurt. The “old and slow” defense is still brilliantly coached, but the lack of ability to create turnovers has been distressing the past few years now.

It is a little early to call for Tomlin’s head, however. An offseason to get healthy, a decent draft and some of the younger players coming on and the Steelers are right back in the thick of it once again. I don’t think that I’m ready to hit the panic button.

They held us to 6 points The other 7 were from a pick 6. However, the Bengals have a great up and coming young defense led by Geno Atkins and Carlos Dunlap. They are the reason for Pittsburgh “offensive struggles” yesterday. Our front four is so strong that we didn’t even need to blitz much.

The Bengals won the game, props to them. I thought it was a poorly coached game on both sides of the ball and I thought both QB’s were horrible.

I thought the Bengals defense played very well.

Bengals: they have a solid young team and arguably the best team in the division for years to come but we will be there as well.

You have to be a steelers fan to understand that it is a trend for us to miss the playoffs 1 year out of 3.We will be better next year and all of the steelers haters should be scared and deep inside they know that a healthy steelers team will go deep.
