Packers demolish Titans, 55-7

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb celebrates his touchdown against the against the Tennessee Titans during the first half of a NFL football game in Green Bay Reuters

This is what a good team does to a bad one.

And this is the kind of game that can get people fired.

The Packers cruised to an easy 55-7 win over the Titans, moving them to 11-4 and giving them a shot at a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs.

The Packers cleared the decks, getting quarterback Aaron Rodgers out of the game after he threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns, letting backup Graham Harrell finish up.

Titans quarterback Jake Locker wasn’t as lucky, hanging around until the end and finishing with a flourish, with a cosmetic touchdown lifting his passer rating to 41.0 (after a 0.0 first half).

The loss drops the Titans to 5-10, and raises serious questions about the future of both Locker and coach Mike Munchak in Tennessee. Granted, they’re playing one of the best teams in football, but they weren’t even competitive, and looked mostly like a bunch that wanted to get in out of the cold.

Titans scored with less than two minutes left once the Packers D had a bunch of backups in.

The Titans should be thankful that McCarthy is a bigger man than Pete Carroll. Otherwise, this one would have been 75-0.

    Next week:

    Packers 38, Vikings 12

    Rodgers with 350 Yds & 4 TDs

Peterson with less than 100 yards, falling short of his precious record, and his precious MVP.

The fact that AJ Hawk had multiple sacks and that the Packers had multiple rushing TDs – amazing. Hawk matched his season’s production for sacks in this one game.

Would have been nice to preserve the shut-out tho.

Fans from other teams on this site constantly saying the Packers and Aaron Rodgers aren’t very good this year and on the way down to mediocrity. 11-4 record 35 tds and 8 ints – as a fan of GB I’ll happily take that.

packers fan who lived in nashville for 10 years…that fan base deserves better than this.

Locker got drafted way too high but that still doesn’t explain 55-7. That’s on the coaching staff. The only reason that I would say that Locker gets one more year is that this upcoming QB class is probably just as bad as the 2010 class and I don’t think that Tennessee will be able to acquire a QB like Flynn. So I think Titans fans will be stuck with Locker for at least one more year but I do think they could have a new head coach.

    “Dismember The Titans.”

as a packers fan it was a fun game to watch, but it was the titans. so as long as it doesn’t go to the packs head that would be nice.

What no bitching about running up the score?

Talk about a bunch of hypocrites

Best thing to come out of this game would be no injuries to Packers.

    Hope Randall Cobb is OK.

    Peaking.

Rodgers had christmas shopping to do yet. So he made the titans look like fools, and got out of there early. Can’t blame him, sunday afternoon everyone’s watching football. This way he can leave the stadium early and beat the rush.

Packers are fine tuning for the next time they get a chance at the Seahawks.

What? Getting crushed by the Vikings and giving AD the record? You crazy brat breather

Better hear all week from the media/fans about how questionable the integrity of the Packers are for running up the score.

  18. teal379 says: Dec 23, 2012 5:39 PM

Those calling what the Packers did “running up the score” obviously didn’t watch the game.

A team (the Packers) with little or no running game all year simply started to hand the ball off in the middle of the 3rd quarter. Hand off, hand off, hand off….

    Titans just couldn’t stop it.

  19. deltaoracle says: Dec 23, 2012 5:53 PM

Boy, the refs really gave this one to the Packers, huh?

  20. CKL says: Dec 23, 2012 6:00 PM

DG your fist line is the exact thing I was thinking as I was watching my team play keystone cops to a 2-12 squad and I saw the GB-Tenn score on RZ. Ooof. Mikey Mac won’t make that same error again of resting guys late.

  21. mjjoe76 says: Dec 23, 2012 6:28 PM

It was clear the Titans had given up. The Packers were mostly running the ball with the backup QB throwing two passes for 9 yards. Grant got two rushing TDs late because none of the Titans defenders wanted to try hard enough to tackle him.

It’s easy to “run up the score” when the other team doesn’t even care if they make the stop.

  22. billbrasky72 says: Dec 23, 2012 6:37 PM

Looks like getting rid of Jeff Fisher worked out pretty well. Can’t wait to see AP break the record next week against the Packers.

  23. judsonjr says: Dec 23, 2012 6:50 PM

I didn’t see the Packers trying fake punts up by 5 TD’s and McCarthy wasn’t fist pumping and acting like a moron on the sideline, so yeah there won’t be much news about this one.

Running up the score? Did you see that touchdown run by Grant? Instead of attempting to tackle him, they decided to play two hand touch instead. The Titans have no one to blame but themselves for letting the Packers destroy them like they did today.

Even when Seattle isn’t playing, there’s still people hating on them. Gotta love it. Seattle getting hate for no reason. I’m curious why we’re all of a sudden extremely hated this year. The MNF game? Replacement refs. The running up the scores? Carroll put in backups. Cards, Bills (and Titans) just are not good. The CB suspensions? 72% of athletes juice in some form. The winning?

Alright, we are responsible for that. Go Hawks.

As a Titans fan, this game was a complete embarrassment for the entire organization. But I don’t think that this was entirely Locker’s fault. He was playing behind a makeshift offensive line with most of the regular starters on IR. The defense played awful too. I blame this entirely on the coaching staff having a horrible game plan and not having their players ready to go and motivated to play a top tier team like the packers. Munchak and the rest of the staff are coaching for their jobs next week.

A Double win next week. Clinch 1st round bye & knock the Queens out of the Playoffs.

  28. axespray says: Dec 23, 2012 9:34 PM

Went to this game – best part (aside from the blow out victory) was late in the 4th qt, when everyone started chanting “Bears Still Suck!”

  29. bla bla bla says: Dec 23, 2012 9:36 PM

the only way they could have NOT scored 55 would have been to start taking a knee early in the third quarter.

When they drop 70 on the Seahags the next time they meet, THAT will be on purpose. And fun.

  30. shlort says: Dec 23, 2012 9:42 PM

Pete Carroll said he decided to not onside the kick after the scoring drive kept alive by the fake punt because he didnt want it to look like he was running up the score.
