Saints win in overtime, ruin Cowboys comeback

AP

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo said last week that if they were within two scores in the fourth quarter, they felt like they’d win.

But despite erasing a 31-17 deficit in the final 3:35 of regulation, they still fell 34-31 to the Saints in overtime.

The loss dropped the Cowboys to 8-7, forcing them to watch scoreboards instead of controlling their own destiny.

Garrett Hartley was able to kick the chip-shot field goal to win after Saints tight end Jimmy Graham recovered a fumble after a Marques Colston catch. After a lengthy review, the play stood as called, and the Saints left Cowboys Stadium shocked.

  1. You think this loss hurts Dallas? Next week, the Washington Redskins crushes your hopes and playoff dreams, and wins the NFC East in the process in front of a National Televsion audience. Enjoy watching RGIII and co. win the Superbowl on your tremendous screen hanging in your stadium. That is all.

  2. We may have started the season on a 0 and 4 but hey! Who’s counting. If all the experts are correct, maybe we could still make the play-offs. God help our opponents if we do. Maybe it was a slice of luck for Jimmy after Marques’s fumble but so what, the better teat won.

  3. But keep that Mediocre HC for your mediocre team, Jerry! That is good business with the talent that’ll be available after next week…

  4. No pass rush.Nobody touched Brees all game.Cowboys better get a DE in the draft because Demarcus” No Ware to be found” in big games is way overrated.

  5. Great day to be a Saints fan. First we hear that the Cowboys won’t come after Sean Payton and then the Saints win. Can’t wait until 2013!

    Hey, Moron….
Dallas has no ILB’s and half of the defense is on IR. Additionally, Ware has been playing hurt half of the season. Ware is not the issue, it is the ILB’s and the nose tackle position, Ratliff and Brent are out. It is apparent that you know nothing about a 3-4 defense.
You should do some serious reading since you have never PLAYED the game.

‘Why would the Saints be shocked?’

I think you’ve had too many Bud’s “me old mate”.
Drew and the boys obviously led the Cowboy’s into a false sense of security and went on to win, even though luck was on they’re side.

  8. If you believe Jerry Jones saying Garrett isn’t going anywhere…with Sean Payton available?

    Your crazy…

If he thinks he can pull it off, he will at least try

Everyone knows Payton is an upgrade over Garrett

  9. Love all these Saints “fans”, where were you 10 years ago? Redskins finally win 9 games in a season and they are convinced they are the greatest thing since sliced bread

Sorry to disappoint, but the Saints can’t make the playoffs. Best they’ll finish is 8-8 and the Seahawks and Vikings both have 9 wins already

  11. If Parcells couldn’t take Jerry what makes you think Payton would even want to try? Jerry’s a meddling meddler who makes middling teams but still manages to make money.

  12. 56chevygirl – your only after my heart with comments like that. My reply to ‘goobazooka’s earlier comments which I won’t repeat obviously hit a raw nerve somewhere along the line as it was removed immediately.

  13. “If Parcells couldn’t take Jerry what makes you think Payton would even want to try?”

    Texas VS. Louisiana DUH.

  14. First I’ve come around here in a long time. Obviously this page is full of uneducated morons… Haters. As American’s, we are obligated to root for America’s Team…The Dallas Cowboys!! Romo is the hottest QB in the league right now and will tear up the Redskins secondary just like he did Pittsburgh’s and New Orleans’. And as far as QB in Washington?…Bob isn’t even close to Drew Brees’ talent level. The Cowboys will win the game easily and claim their 20th NFC East Division Title. So America can rejoice once again. That is all…Merry Christmas to all.

Lol, now I’m curious about this. Not sure how or why my comment would have provoked a negative/angry response that warranted deletion. I was simply informing you that the Saints could not make the playoffs. I don’t think there was any kind of hostility or gloating of any kind on my part. I’m kind of disappointed that I missed your response and I’m a little curious as to what it was.

You didn’t… You didn’t put a bounty on me, did you?

  16. Nobody was shocked except for alls those hopeless Cowpies fans. You team still and will continue to stink till JJ heads to the Big Suite in the Sky. Fitting we were able to kill all but any chance of a early exit in January.

  17. Awesome game coming up next week. Whether your a skins or boys fan how awesome is this last week of season win your jn Awesome awesome awesome did I say awesome

  18. It’s kae I know it’s easy to get confused. Since the Saints started in 1966, if you have been a fan for 46 years then good for you but you would be the exception since they have more bandwagon fans than anyone. See you in the playoffs….oops not this year.

  19. Your organization can’t crown themselves as “America’s Team” and expect others to to embrace that ridiculous title. Finishing 9-7 at best and being nothing but irrelevant for over a decade isn’t much to brag about…but then again Cowboys fans may think it is. Typical uneducated Cowboys bandwagon “fan.” You are silly mikelli… 🙂

  20. Garrett’s play calling just plain stinks!

Let tony call the plays I beg you Jason!

Murray? What has happened to you? You lost the game for the team today…

As for he defense, these guys are made of glass…it’s not Robs fault, he is playing with a bunch of guys who will not be playing football next year…it was a fun ride while it lasted…

Maybe next year…( haven’t heard that before )

  21. 33 first downs. 563 net yards of offense. Nice job your D did today Blobby Ryan. Way to show up in a must win game.

  22. Lol Blobby Ryan.

It’s funny because it fits and he’s blobby like that video game a boy and his blob. Who remembers that?

As if I could afford too. No man, there was nothing, as far as I know, that was detrimental or abusive but I obviously hit a nerve with someone. I simply tried to explain that I’ve been a Saints fan since the late 70’s watching their up’s and down’s, after the Royal Navy ship I was serving on, paid a visit to Orleans. And to point out that last week, this site and others had the Saints as still being in the hunt. I don’t doubt your comments, I just queried if you thought yourself as one of those experts.
I know you celebrate Thanks Giving more than Christmas as we do in the UK, but have a good one, and a happy and prosperous new year.

  24. Thought the Cowboys made a mistake coming out in O.T and going conservative. Would like to have seen them continue hurry up mode again like they were doing successfuly. The Saints secondary had to be a little tired.

I knew if they punted it to Brees he was going to do what he does and take them right down the field. I can’t understand how Jason Garrett couldn’t realize punting to Brees was not an option.
