With top seed locked up, playoffs loom for Falcons

The good news for the Falcons?  After 16 weeks, they finally have nailed down the top seed in the NFC postseason field.

Bad news?  The talk and focus and pressure regarding whether they will squander home-field advantage can now officially commence.

Though the Falcons are 0-3 in the playoffs since the arrival of Matt Ryan, Mike Smith, and Thomas Dimitroff, only one of those losses came at home, a 48-21 Saturday night shellacking from the sixth-seeded Packers.

Safety Thomas DeCoud thinks this year will be different.

It’s in the back of our minds,” DeCoud said after Saturday night’s win, regarding January 2011’s loss.  “But we know we are a different team than we were two years ago with the passion we play with and the play-making ability is much higher than we had two years ago.”

Quarterback Matt Ryan also believes that there’s something different about the 2012 Falcons.

“I think we are definitely a different football team than we’ve been the past couple of years,” Ryan said.  “Right now I think our confidence is high and our experience in the past, both good and bad, have helped us get to the point we’re at.  I think the key is to continue to keep the focus where it’s been.”

The best thing the Falcons can do is use the attention and pressure and scrutiny regarding past playoff failures as a chip on their collective shoulders, transforming their postseason as an effort to prove wrong everyone who doubts the franchise based on their past inability to deliver when the games count the most.

Easiest #1 seed in NFL history. I look forward to RGIII and the Redskins march into the Georgia Dome and humble yet another overrated team.

“Logicalvoicesays”….You, sir, are not very logical. The Redskins ARE that overrated team. Everyone is on the wagon and I know you are a fan, too. You and everyone else in this area wearing “red, yellow, and black” has tried to shove “PLAYOFFS” in my face at least 20 times. Yes, very accurate. The Ravens are already IN the playoffs. So is this ATL team. So skins fans are the ones who will be humbled IF you even make it. Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame-glad I got that off my chest.

Please go bet all the money you have against the Falcons or just shut up. If you’re not willing to put your money where your mouth is then you are just that…a mouth.

That’s A Different Falcons Team this year. Not easy to come in a win in Northside Drive! Just sit back and watch. Falcons to the Super Bowl.

The prettiest regular season team around until the calendar hits January, and then they show they were frauds all along. The good news is that they should be able to improve on the two points the defense scored scored last year in New York.

I guess after they beat the skins, giants or Dallas in the div round everyone will say it’s just one playoff game…..

Still a one and done playoff team.

Still a one and done playoff team. But they will make the loss a little closer this year.

“A first round choke would be hysterical.”

Yes it would, considering they have a first round bye. Moron.
