In addition to suffering a blowout loss to the Seahawks, the 49ers have suffered a significant loss to their receiving corps.
Wide receiver Mario Manningham tore his ACL and PCL Sunday night in Seattle, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. That obviously means Manningham won’t play in the playoffs, and a torn ACL this late in the year could affect Manningham into the 2013 season as well.
That hurts for San Francisco: Manningham is second on the team with 42 catches and third on the team with 449 receiving yards. Manningham will be the second 49ers receiver to go on injured reserve this month, following Kyle Williams.
With Manningham out, the 49ers will likely get Randy Moss more involved in the offense. Rookie A.J. Jenkins, the first-round draft pick who has yet to catch a pass this season, will also be asked to step up for a 49ers team that suddenly looks like it may be reeling heading into the playoffs.
