Yes it would and it does! Seahawks had a dominant first half defensively and both teams played average at best in the 2nd half. If either team had played more effectively it wouldn’t have come down to that play!

The refs are incompetent or crooked. This has been going on for years-except for the Pats all teams get hosed.
The refs took a TD from the Ravens yesterday and continued their dubious calls until it was apparent the G men were finished. Play-off ratings.

First of all, I’m a Packer fan. The Packers deserved to lose in week three. They were outplayed the whole game. However, can you idiots who truly believe that the fail Mary was ACTUALLY a catch please shut up? It wasn’t. Jennings had the ball, was down by contact, then Tate wrestled one arm in after the play was dead. Even factoring in the one arm in it is NOT a simultaneous catch.
The game was horrible for both teams as far as the refs go. Both teams got away with numerous pass interference calls the whole game and even while watching it I knew the outcome would come down to a bad call. Unfortunately it didn’t work out in my team’s favor.
The Seahawks are playing great and I believe they are the most dangerous team entering the playoffs right now. They seem to get all the bounces and sometimes that is what it takes. No tuck rule, maybe no Pats dynasty.
I’m a Packer fan saying that the Hawks deserved to win against us. As Hawks fans can you just admit that either it wasn’t a catch or that you know nothing about the rules of football? Flip it around, what of it happened against your team? You would say you got jobbed. I guarantee that!
I don’t want to see a rematch because I think the Seahawks match up extremely well against the Packers and no matter where the game is played, the Hawks could take it. Man, I hate saying that.

See, this is the part of the argument that makes no sense. There’s nothing in the rules that says a catch has to be two hands … one-handed catches are absolutely allowed, and that’s why I continue to believe it was a TD.

Also, please stop saying only Seahawks fans believe it was a TD. I am not a Seahawks fan, and actually quite partial to the Packers who are a great team to watch, but still think the ‘Hawks scored a legit TD there.

What about the pass interference? Y’all are delusional if you really think that was legit catch. The NFL public apologized for it, why do you think they brought the regular refs back after that? Seahawk fans are awefully defensive (no pun intended) about this issue, what’s that compensating for? You’re team looks outstanding right now, no doubt a serious threat in the play-offs, just admit you got lucky on that one. Nobody should ever blame any team for taking whatever they can get, but don’t act like that was a legit win. Everybody knows it wasn’t. And the fact the Packer have overcome that ridiculous start and are currently in the number 2 slot is admirable.

My recollection of the NFL stance was that it was limited to the offensive pass interference infraction that was not called, but said nothing about the joint possession.

It’s strange that people think that because the so-called “fail mary” call occurred at the end of the game that it was the only call that influenced the outcome of the game. What about all of the other bad calls in the game, including those that went against the Seahawks? And what about all the bad calls that are made during NFL games every week, both by replacement refs and the real refs?

Bottom line: the “fail mary” Seahawks win is as legitimate as any other win.

Oh, and people need to realize that one hand on the ball does not mean less possession than two hands on the ball when it comes to a catch in this league. Bengals fan for 40 years always will be. do or die. yay. dedicated. I love the underdogs if my teams don’t win. I don’t want someone who won already I hate that so no New England(by the way is my second fave team that started way when bledsoe was first qb so when they were bad but 3 is enough now) Denver had 2 at least and I love elway but can’t stand the dude that used to play with them who plays with chicago now. what a ego thinks he throws harder then elway even if he does you don’t say stuff about youself. why can’t I think Of his name, he yells at his own players why he plays. what a a hole. so no denver or chicago they one won just in case they get in, Both Indy and Baltimore won one. so I am for my bengals of course and if not them the texans for the afc. Now the nfc….GB no way they won before don’t like what the did to brett either. 49ers no no no way hahaha they won like five and won the two we were in. so Atlanta and Seattle for the nfc they been in it but I don’t think they won any oh and if Minnesota makes it that is a big won to want to go to superbowl since they lost 4 and never won one. so lets root for a new one. it is so boring for the same teams. thats why I can’t stand the yankees and lakers, well lakers also because kobe is on it ewww.

GB didn’t lose that game on one play and they didn’t need to lose to Indy.

I think everyone remembers who made the call and is/was angry with the refs. Most folks from Wisconsin like the Seahawks just fine. Russell Wilson was a Badger. You have more than one ex-Packer. Some of our personnel have a history there, including Ted Thompson.

The reason people are reacting against the Seahawks is because of the (hopefully) small but obnoxious group of Seahawks fans who continually assert that the refs didn’t make a mistake, that the Seahawks won fair and square, or that people should simply “get over it”.

The refs screw up a lot of games. You’re right about that. They made bad calls on both sides. You’re right about that. But to assert that it doesn’t matter at all, or that Tate had simultaneous possession when 95% (at least) of the league and its fans said otherwise is ridiculous.

I’m a big Packer fan, every time they show that play it is obvious it was a blown call. The replacement refs screwed a lot of teams. It is what it is. I watched the Seahawks destroy the niners last night and I thought it would be a really close game. The Seahawks are playing great and will be tough for anyone to beat!

Since we’re living in the past why don’t we head back a couple seasons to when the refs gave the Packers a win over the Vikings on bad calls? That essentially allowed GB to get the wild card and go on to win the Superbowl. The NFL openly admitted to the refs botching TD calls which allowed the Packers to win. So, we can either put an asterisk on the Packers Superbowl win, or we can just let that go, and also let the Packers/Seahawks game from this season go as well, and just play football. I’m talking to you Aaron Rodgers!

Not a Hawks or Pack fan and that game in no way impacts the seeding.
For starters, by rule that was a TD catch if their was no flag BUT it should have been PI on Tate, thing is NOBODY should have a problem with that wrong call on a PI because all it did was balance out the phantom PI call that extended the Packers lone TD drive that was the only reason they ahead.
Why are so many people focused on one error so much when all it did was was offset a previous error and give us the right winner, let it go people, the right team won, the officials awarded 2 touchdowns that they never should have on that night.
The real score of that game should have been…

This is asinine. There’s nothing in the rule book that states that a catch must be made with two hands. And the word “simultaneous” has to do with time, not number of hands. Tate had possession and control of the ball with two feet in the end zone (by rule, a catch) before the defenders feet ever came down. Deal with it, the replacements made the right call.

Last time I checked, one handed catches happen frequently in the NFL.

Who was the first person to get two feet on the ground with the ball?

Because a catch isn’t a catch until you are on the ground – and you need to maintain possession all the way to the ground.

Golden Tate never lost possession of the ball.

Actually not quite 59 minutes but I have to keep reminding people it wasn’t the fail Mary alone that won the game, it just made it academic. With around 4 minutes to go does anyone remember te egregious roughing call on Erik walden that nullified an INT?

How about the phantom PI on Sam shields that flipped field position that allowed Seattle to be in position for the fail Mary. The PI seas actually the worst because Sam Shields was in position to intercept the pass and Tate initiated slight contact but Shields drew the flag.

True objective fans see the full picture in its entirety not just the net result.

You wanna claim the PI that set up the GB touchdown fine, where was the flag on Kam Chancellor (I think it was him). When he pulled a diamond dusty page move on Greg Jennings right in front of a ref in the end zone. But yes the game was called horribly but two late bogus calls and one non call at the end all added up to what we now call the fail Mary.

Where’s the outcry concerning the Ravens victory over San Diego? Ray Rice was given a first down when he fell a half yard short on that 4th & 29 play. If called correctly San Diego would have gained posession and gone into the victory formation for the win. That missed call, by the regular refs by the way, affected the outcome of that game just as much as the missed call in the GB/Seattle game. The Chargers/Ravens missed call could also affect the playoffs.

Of course all of the missed calls that allowed Green Bay to even take the lead are being ignored as well.

The officiating has been dreadful SINCE the lockout ended. I’m a Dolphin fan, and frankly, the Bills got screwed blue on several calls this week. Miami has in other games.

This play was just notable for being nationally seen at the end of a game during the point when the replacements were being much discussed.
