Titans owner Bud Adams sent a pretty strong signal to coach Mike Munchak when he went public with his decision to stop watching Sunday’s 55-7 loss to the Packers.

He sent an even stronger one when asked directly about the coach.

“I like Mike, I really do. But liking him and getting the job done are two different things,” Adams said. “If he is not getting the job done, that is what I have to find out. Right now, we are not looking very good. Something is wrong and I want to find out what the problem is and what needs to be done to fix it.”

Munchak was asked about Adams’ comments at his press conference on Monday and gave his answer of why he should be the guy who can fix the problems for a 5-10 team that’s been outscored by 159 points this season.

“You can’t lose perspective of the fact that sometimes it takes a little longer to build something than one season or a season-and-a- half. We’ve had one offseason here since I have been head coach, so we haven’t had a lot of time with the players. We have a short period of time to fix it, but I feel very confident that we will,” Munchak said, via Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. “But I feel good about how we are going to get there and it will be up to Mr. Adams to see if he agrees with me.”

Moving from 9-7 to, at best, 6-10 isn’t an obvious sign that the amount of time with the players is the problem but Munchak’s right about one thing. Adams will be the one to decide if that sales pitch is one he’s prepared to buy.
