Dolphins don’t deny leaked image is their new logo

An image of what appears to be a new helmet logo for the Dolphins recently emerged, via the fan site

On Wednesday, Dolphins CEO Mike Dee addressed the rumored logo leak on Twitter, without specifically denying that the leaked image is the new logo.

“Lots of buzz re logos,” Dee said.  “Love the passion! We continue to explore a # of design alternatives…final decision by Draft.”

Of course, he didn’t admit it, either.  It’s possible that the logo is simply one of several potential choices.

Either way, change is coming for the Dolphins.  Their fans surely would prefer that change come in the form of improved performance.

For some reason i never really liked the dolphins logo and i don’t think this one is any better. Of course I’m a browns fan .

I beg you. Please do not go to this hideous logo. Please!

  3. stevemo says: Dec 26, 2012 10:01 PM

There are a few mockups of this logo on helmets and I think it looks great in that context. We’ll see with the uniforms.

    Oh, here:

    This looks good too:

How about a dolphin caught in a tuna net…that would represent the organization’s unwavering struggles.

It’s not sticking a fin down its throat, that’s a positive.

  7. 4t9er says: Dec 26, 2012 10:06 PM

The Dolphins have an iconic logo, they should update it slightly not abandon it.

  8. j0esixpack says: Dec 26, 2012 10:07 PM

I get it. It’s a dolphin. Pretty radical.

It’s just as well they leaked it. If they’d kept the secret better I’ll bet people really would have been incredibly shocked.

It’s best they break this to people as gently as possible.

(As a side note, I’ll bet these guys get sick of being confused with

  9. facebookuser111 says: Dec 26, 2012 10:09 PM

Roger Goodell has already fined the logo for not wearing its helmet.

  10. 69finfan says: Dec 26, 2012 10:10 PM

Mike, at first I thought this was just another attempt at dissing the Dolphins by you but then I thought about it and change in the form of improved performance would be kind of nice. They could wear burlap sacks and collanders for helmets for all I care, bring on a winning season and a playoff game for starters. Go Fins!

  11. oldladykillaz says: Dec 26, 2012 10:10 PM

why mess with a historic logo..that “new one” looks stupid..look at all the teams that havent changed their logos at all, now count their lombardis and see if you still wanna change your logo!

  12. whitdog23 says: Dec 26, 2012 10:15 PM

intentional leak. team doesn’t have backbone to decide. common these days in sports… sms

  13. wwwmattcom says: Dec 26, 2012 10:16 PM

Who gives. I hate when teams change logos. Its a distraction from the game.

  14. csilojohnson says: Dec 26, 2012 10:18 PM

Very boring. Looks like a dolphin. Not a whale. Nose could be a little longer.

  15. mad55555 says: Dec 26, 2012 10:19 PM

The name dolphins and the logo of a dolphin is not really a tough image. They might as well just give the dolphin a face with a angry snarl. RRRRRrrrrr, I’m a bottle nose dolphin… Jesus, just move the team to LA already and the soft logo will go with the soft fan base. Not that the shoe doesn’t already fit.

  16. effthaeffinjetsgofins says: Dec 26, 2012 10:20 PM

I cant even imagine a new logo. But change is inevitable I guess. Breaks my heart.

  17. N JAIL U MY HOE says: Dec 26, 2012 10:24 PM

Seriously… Mike Dee is his real name? No accents over the “e” or anything like that to make it prounouce funny? He should be a rapper.

  18. jpb12 says: Dec 26, 2012 10:27 PM

    Nobody cares

  19. wadecounty93 says: Dec 26, 2012 10:33 PM

The only change that needs to be done is better performance on Sundays. Resign Bush at the right price, have a solid draft, and pick up some good free agents this offseason. Miami has one of the better looking logos in the league anyway. A win against the Pats this Sunday would be a change. Go Fins!

  20. birthritual says: Dec 26, 2012 10:34 PM

No more mini helmet on the dolphin? Thumbs down.

  21. xplicitpits says: Dec 26, 2012 10:34 PM

    Old ones better

  22. dolphins561 says: Dec 26, 2012 10:36 PM

weak logo needs an eye or something. they need to just leave it if that’s the new one.

  23. str8infamous says: Dec 26, 2012 10:37 PM

    It looks okay to me!

  24. patriotsdefense says: Dec 26, 2012 10:38 PM

It kinda looks like a jumbo jet…

I like the old logo with the helmeted sea mammal…

  25. rick1574 says: Dec 26, 2012 10:42 PM

That logo looks awful…worse than the team they’ve put on the field these last several years

  26. finsfrontofficeisajoke says: Dec 26, 2012 10:43 PM

    Leave my fking logo alone.

  27. silverhornet says: Dec 26, 2012 10:47 PM

When do the Dolphins have to submit the final logo by (did you say November Mike?) and can they submit more than one “final logo?”

  28. rgthreesticks says: Dec 26, 2012 10:47 PM

looks like nothing more than a rough draft. regardless, it is INFINITELY better than their current cartoon Dolphins logo.

  29. stercuilus65 says: Dec 26, 2012 10:53 PM

I like it. Bigger and bolder dolphin that shows speed.Simple but effective.

  31. psychonolfi says: Dec 26, 2012 10:57 PM

Hey…Dolphins fan here, since the glory days of 70’s. Who gives a %&&% about new logos? Losers, that’s who. Win some $%^damn games if you want to sell merchandise!

  32. ghjjf says: Dec 26, 2012 11:04 PM

Ross already changed the Dolphins theme song, now he is going to change the logo. For Ross the image/sounds/celeberties are more important than the quality of play on the field.

  33. anyonebutbrady says: Dec 26, 2012 11:11 PM

LoL, that looks like an airbrush tattoo from the fair. I can’t believe anyone in the hypersensitive NFL would promote a dolphin playing without its helmet. Clearly that dolphin needs to be protected from itself, hehehe

  34. bills4 says: Dec 26, 2012 11:42 PM

The Miami Flippers. Yup, sounds good, looks good!!

  35. mikebrownistheworstownerinprosports says: Dec 26, 2012 11:52 PM

Bengals fan here, and I’m not diggin’ it.

The Phins should stick with their old logo, as it has a ton of tradition behind it. Plus the new one does look like a cheap tattoo of a jumbo jet. Do Dolphins fans really want a logo that looks like a Jet? Just sayin.

  36. niemikw says: Dec 27, 2012 12:02 AM

How about a color change? Enough with the teal and orange already.

  37. finsrule2222 says: Dec 27, 2012 12:23 AM

i love the dolphins logo the way it is now. im a dolphins fan and like the article says i want a change on the football field, not the logo. I will be disappointed if the logo changes even though that seems inevitable

  38. allhedoesiscatchtouchdowns says: Dec 27, 2012 12:56 AM

Better than a dolphin wearing a helmet!

  39. codyodea says: Dec 27, 2012 1:20 AM

I kind of like it. Its more realistic than the old one. Dolphins don’t really wear helmets. Ultimately the decision should be made by Don Shula and Dan Marino, and in case of a tie Zach Thomas could be called in.

  40. lennydpocketqb says: Dec 27, 2012 2:02 AM

I can’t wait to see them lose in this logo too!

  41. truwarier90 says: Dec 27, 2012 2:10 AM

Drew Brees would like an explanation.

Ocho Cinco would like to use this logo in his Madden online games.

  42. ishudbgm says: Dec 27, 2012 2:24 AM

the fins take one step forward then 10 steps back. LEAVE THE LOGO ALONE PLEASE!!!! Update the stadium, update the pants, maybe the jersey and the “miami” in the endzone but please leave the logo alone. I wouldn’t mind seeing us wear our throwbacks sometimes either…like the uniforms Griese wore with the grey facemask back in the 70s.

  43. spfripp says: Dec 27, 2012 3:33 AM

From a design perspective, it is a well designed logo. But it is a logo that does not go with the sport of football. It is something I would design for a save the dolphins organization and not a something I would do for a football team. I have seen logos designed by fans that would be more fitting. In fact I wonder why they didn’t hold a logo contest. Would have been a great way to get fans to feel as part of the team.

  44. christopher525 says: Dec 27, 2012 4:59 AM

Alright, posted this last night, and like most posts lately, it’s magically disappeared. I say do a total overhaul. Go with the name from Any Given Sunday of the Miami Sharks. Change the colors to grey, blood red, and white. The Dolphins have done nothing meaningful as a team since the 70’s, time to put them out to pasture.

  45. jaxdolfan says: Dec 27, 2012 7:21 AM

Donald Ross grew up a Jets fan. Now he is turning our logo into the Jets Logo. Next he will hire Fireman Eduardo to work the stands.

  46. sbmcintosh36 says: Dec 27, 2012 8:42 AM

Biggest question I have is how did they get every person at the game in the pic above because that’s about the attendance they’ve had at their games this year

  47. mcmeen0576 says: Dec 27, 2012 1:57 PM

The Miami Free Willys! They could run out to that Michael Jackson song from the soundtrack!

  48. mrcogburn says: Dec 27, 2012 4:43 PM

    A blind dolphin?

A metaphor for the team’s front office these days.

  49. marcelocean says: Dec 27, 2012 10:46 PM

    I like the bottom one:

  50. cody407 says: Dec 28, 2012 11:46 AM

I’m not against to change as long as its for the right reasons and it’s an improvement. I don’t like at all what has been leaked and I’ve been a Dolphins fan for over 40 years.

What I would really like to see is for the team to go retro and bring back the old 1972 look! Maybe that would bring some good mojo with it and get us back to being a feared power in the AFC!

The current coaching staff has the Fins heading in the right direction and maybe bringing back that historic uniform and logo would put them over the top. I mean after all, any real football fan that sees that old logo knows who it belongs to and that it still stand for PERFECTION to this day. GO DOLPHINS!!

  51. maverick34690 says: Dec 28, 2012 1:58 PM

    Butt ugly!

  52. dolphinsdewd88 says: Dec 28, 2012 4:40 PM

This is horrendous why change something that is perfectly fine. Think of all the merchandise of the old logo, and no one will want to buy this piece of garbage.

  53. randomguy9999 says: Dec 28, 2012 5:06 PM

    the Phins need new everything…. logo… stadium… uniforms…. players…..

good news: the have got a PILE of picks this year…

now if some of the college guys Ireland picks actually work out…..

  54. dolfan8385 says: Dec 29, 2012 2:05 AM

Love the fins just wish we would get an owner that has a clue or that understood football tradition.

Instead of looking to make a buck. You want to change the logo… go back to the 80’s logo that way you can still make your money and keep the tradition going.

and for those of you who don’t like the logo… go find another team. It shows the lack of football knowledge. Worried about a logo… Really??? Please become a Jets fan.

honestly for those that want the logo change is that freaking thing any better???????

This franchise is starting to become a joke around the league.

Got another great idea focus on winning instead of changing the logo. Are you going to put people in the stands by changing the logo? Get a clue ownership.

PS I’ll be in the night club at dolphins stadium if you want to talk about it. unbelievable

  55. agarcia0191 says: Dec 29, 2012 8:11 AM

They should just have a vote from the fans. Have the final five logos judged!

  56. hehateme2 says: Dec 29, 2012 8:39 AM

What would the Browns know about a logo? They have the grossest uniforms in sports.

  57. dulz26 says: Dec 29, 2012 1:30 PM

Terrible logo, sucks big time. They should ask the fans if we like it and they should be working in getting new play makers, not fricking logos…..
