Getty ImagesAdrian Peterson getting 208 rushing yards against the Packers this week to break Eric Dickerson’s single-season record of 2,105 seems tough to imagine, except for two things.
He’s Adrian Peterson, and he’s playing the Packers.
The Vikings running back put 210 on the board against them at Lambeau Field earlier this month, showing the record is well within his reach.
“He’s a great guy. I’ve gotten to know him outside of football,” Packers linebacker Clay Matthews said, via Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “You’d love to see a guy who has worked so hard and has overcome so much to win that crown — but ultimately that is against our defense. I don’t think any of us want to see that happen. We’ll do our best to try and contain him.
“He’s a fantastic guy, he’ll make his plays, but let’s hope we don’t give up 200 yards again to him.”
As much as they admire Peterson’s comeback and would like to see him break the record, they have their own interests this week, as they’re still alive for the second seed in the NFC and a first round bye in the playoffs.
Of course, after scoring 55 last week, the Packers could realistically allow Peterson to break the record and still get the win they need to earn a week off.
