Steelers are only a few tweaks away from being a legit contender. A brutal run of injuries combined with a nasty turnover differential has kept this team back the past 2 years.

Stud RB needed? Yes

Physical, Red-zone threat WR needed? Yes, ideally 2

The D is fine as always…the young DB’s look great. #1 in Pass D despite a so-so rush this year.

O-line has plenty of talent, just needs to stay healthy to gel.

…the Steeler glass is ~ 80% full. This organization doesn’t panic and crumble. They will be back in 2013.

Cmon Ben give us a break. If your happy with that total piece of crap of an offense (if you can actually call it that) which Haley brought to the Steelers then your the only one in PIttsburgh who is. He needs to take that offense out of the Burgh about 1 nano second after the Cleveland game ends. Take it back to the last place Chiefs from whence it came – as long as he goes with it. All I want for Christmas to have have Haley completely out of our lives in Pittsburgh.

You are an idiot. #1 pass defense looked poor towards end of season because #1 corner was injured. Do you even do any research before you write this garbage? Keep saying the defense is old and slow. They are sure to prove you wrong again next year. All that so called drama between Ben and Haley is just in your dreams. How about reporting on facts instead of constantly fishing for a story. The offense as a whole needs to gel. First year with Haley. Understandable. The parts are there. With or without Wallace. They need to stop putting the defense in bad situations. Do you even watch the games? Or do you just wait for the press conference?

Everyone has theories on why the steelers didnt play we’ll at the end of the season. It’s basically a combination of many things. New OC to start the season, Wallace held out all,of training camp, mendenhall coming of ACL surgery, Troy missing 8 games, Ike Taylor missing 3 games, Ben missing 3 games, harrison missing multiple games coming off knee surgery, the offensive line only playing the same lineup 3 times all season, Pouncy having to play guard twice, Woodley missing 3 games, starting two practice squad players at corner, running back by committee almost all year, Antonio brown missing 2 games, and the injury list goes on, and yet until the loss against the bengals, they still had a shot at the playoffs. For quite a while they were leading the league in 3rd down conversion, the offense was starting to jell when the O line got hurt, and Ben was out 3 straight games. Yes I understand every team has injuries, but anyone can look at the steelers and realize they were hit week after week with major injuries at key positions, and were starting 3rd stringers at multiple positions. Anyone could see Bens accuracy was way off after the injury, yes the same injury people said was pure drama, yet he had to sit out 3 games. He missed 3 key games just for drama? I doubt it. Bottom line, the steelers lost to teams they shouldn’t have, raiders, browns, titans, so they don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. However to blame it all on Haley, Ben or a defense, who played quite well despite all the injuries, tells me you simply hate the team ,and don’t really follow football. Plenty of blame to go around, from the coaching staff, to the lack of leadership on the field, but being a jags fan who lives in Pittsburgh, I get to watch a lot of the steelers, and that team was slammed with key injuries week after week. How many teams had to resort to 3rd string QB, or practice squad players week after week ?

Your point is well taken and is a good case in point. Teams can retool rather than totally rebuild in the environment of the NFL. Look at the Colts, et cetera.

Plus in Pittsburgh it would not to be a total rebuild, the core is there and will remain there. Depth is what is needed.

The defense is somewhat long in the tooth, but they played very well this year and were really not the problem – - aside from not creating enough turnovers. But they were solid.

Pittsburgh lived and died on its defense. It seemed from 2005-2010, the Steelers were either in the Super Bowl or out of the playoffs altogether, depending on the toggling of their defense between great or fair. And now the defense is a little long in the tooth. Teams go in cycles and the Steelers have had a decent run, but perhaps the current window has closed. Of course it only takes two years to turn back around, assuming a quality front office. It seems by the time you realize your team is running low on talent, you’re only a short time away from turning back around. The case in point is my Packers whom Mike Sherman as GM painted into a corner as he floated a bunch of contracts for slow, dumb, and overpaid players. Within the third year after replacing him, the Packers were back to relevance. So this is an off year for the Steelers, suffer through another, and the arrows could easily be pointing back up by 2014.

Worst end-of-game play calling i have ever seen. At least 4 sideline interceptions this year. It’s not Ben’s fault. Everyone knew it was coming because that’s Haley’s trademark. Even the Dallas DB knew it was coming and said so after the game.

Bringing in Haley is bringing down Ben. Bruce Arians won 9 straight games with a rookie QB. Haley has a 2-Time Superbowl Champion QB. Ben has been put on too short a leash that has constrained and confined his natural playmaking skills.

Scott Kacsmer has an in depth article on what happened to Pitt this year. I know it’s iffy on posting links so I won’t but people can use search. I mentioned to him that their O scores around the same w/Haley as they did with Arians and he pointed to RZ issues.Says another TE would help, their WRs are useless in RZ. Makes sense, but overall the WR corps is probably the best one they’ve had skill wise to take advantage of what BR likes to do.

The New England Patriots — just a few weeks before Super Bowl 43 — had scored 47 points (with Matt Cassell as their QB) against that same defense that Roethlisberger and Co. produced just 13 points in 59:30. The Steelers’ offense also gave up a safety in that game.
Also, it had been a Roethlisberger interception that set up James Harrison’s spectacular 100-yard interception for a 14-point swing and a TD right before halftime that gave the Steelers a 17-7 lead.
I’d say the Steelers’ defense contributed mightily to that victory.

I would agree. Wallace had a lot of drops this year, and several times it looked like he didn’t make an all out effort when called upon.

We may lose a lot of speed, but Antonio Brown hasn’t reached his ceiling, Sanders could pan out to be a decent 3rd or 4th receiver at worse. Not too mention, mid-round receivers can be had in the draft. Plus, the Steelers in recent memory, usually sprinkle in some under the radar veteran WR’s that bring experience, et cetera.

Losing 5 of 6 with that kind of defense (and the numbers to prove it) shows exactly where the problem is. Blame it on Haley all you want…Ben just stinks right now.

Ben was good. The Steelers were good. Gas used to be cheap. Cry a river. This is just the way things are right now; while the defense seems to be holding up well despite all the critics calling them old, the offense and Ben suck balls.

So basically the defense is now suddenly average and therefore Roethlisberger is exposed as being a bum. I’ve been saying it for years. He’s not HoF material…it was all the defense.
