APThe Bengals are headed back to the playoffs thanks in large part to their defensive line, and another member of that line picked up an award Thursday.
Defensive tackle Geno Atkins was named AFC defensive player of the week, after last week’s postseason-clinching win at Pittsburgh.
Atkins had six tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in the Bengals’ 13-10 win, which earned them back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since 1981-82.
Atkins is fifth in the league with 12.5 sacks, the most among defensive tackles. He joins line-mates Michael Johnson and Carlos Dunlap as winners of player of the week honors this season.
