Getty ImagesWith starting outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware ailing, and backup Victor Butler slowed by a groin strain, the Cowboys are developing contingency plans.
According to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com, the Cowboys worked out veteran Matt Roth Wednesday, though they didn’t sign him immediately.
The 30-year-old Roth had 3.5 sacks for the Jaguars last year before he was placed on injured reserve with a concussion. He worked out with the Bengals last offseason but didn’t sign. He wasn’t in camp with a team this summer, but has some background with the Cowboys coaching staff.
He had 7.5 sacks in two seasons with the Browns, playing under current Cowboys coordinator Rob Ryan.
Neither Ware nor Butler practiced Wednesday, but both are expected to play in Sunday’s win-or-else game against the Redskins.

Another guy Alfred Morris will run over. Dallas can talk and make excuses…at the end of the day they are just another team the Redskins will toss aside en route to Lombardi #4.
A great excuse for this Sunday. I was wondering what it was going to be.
I see the Skins fans haven’t taken their meds today. Worry about your own crappy franchise.
i despise the cowboys but i want them to win just to shut you up logicalvoice. you are the dumbest person i have seen on here. nothing that you write is logical. study up a bit on football and then come back with logical info. or change your name to something more fitting
Cowboys have virtually NO defensive starters left on the def line and linebackers. If they did have Sean Lee, Carter etc. WASH wouldn’t have won the first game. Logicalvoice is in Lala land if he thinks this Skins team can win a SB.
Oh Matt Roth, who knows where your career would be if you didnt fake an injury during a contract dispute with the Dolphins
