There were no shortage of stars for the Seahawks in last Sunday’s 42-13 victory over the 49ers, but only one of them has been named a conference player of the week.
Defensive end Red Bryant has been named the NFC special teams player of the week for his efforts in the third straight blowout win by the Seahawks. Bryant blocked a David Akers field goal try that cornerback Richard Sherman recovered and returned for a touchdown during the rout.
Bryant’s kick blocking skills have been well established. He blocked four kicks last season for the Seahawks, adding even more value to what he brings to the team as a defensive lineman. His full complement of skills led the Seahawks to sign him to a five-year, $35 million deal this offseason, a contract that’s looking like a smart bit of business at the end of its first year.
