APBengals kicker Mike Nugent tried to practice Wednesday, but he apparently didn’t respond well.
According to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Bengals placed Nugent on injured reserve Friday.
Nugent didn’t practice Thursday after giving it a shot, his right calf strain seemingly too much of an issue.
They filled his roster spot by promoting cornerback Chris Lewis-Harris from the practice squad, and they’ll let Josh Brown handle the rest of the kicking they need.
Brown has been good (8-of-9 field goals) since replacing Nugent earlier this month, making it easier to make the decision.

Cut him.
Tough break for nuge, but at least brown covers us and has been good.
Yea he’s might not be done here but he will not be paid like he wanted to be. This is exactly why it was smart for Mikey to NOT sign him to a deal, and franchise him. The history of serious injury with a kicker like this, is so uncommon that it would be senseless to sign him to a major deal with no proof he can survive a full season. Unfortunate, because I love Nuge, Ohio born and raised, and truly a Buckeye Legend. If he wants to play pro ball anymore, this year has set his market value back in a very big way.
