APDolphins defensive tackle Randy Starks has not missed a game this season, but he has missed the last two weeks of practice while dealing with the death of his mother.
Although both Starks and the Dolphins have been quiet about the situation and allowed Starks’ family to deal with the matter privately, the Dolphins did announce in each of the last two weeks that Starks was missing practice for non-injury reasons.
Randy’s mom, Beverly Starks, died on December 15 at the age of 54 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Beverly was employed with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service for 25 years and was married to Randy’s father, Randolph Starks Sr., for 35 years.
Randy Starks started the Dolphins’ game against the Jaguars the day after his mother’s death. The Dolphins announced today that Starks will be on the field Sunday for the season finale against the Patriots.

My sympathies go out to you and your family Mr. Starks as well as anyone else who has lost someone this holiday season! May the new year bring everyone closer together and better luck!
That’s a lot of weight on this young mans shoulders, I wish him & his family well.
We each have to try to deal with our losses in our own way. Good luck to this fine young man, dealing with his loss his way.
Condolences to a very good player
Lots of heartfelt sympathy from Bronco fans… do what you feel is right Mr. Starks, keeping in mind it’s just a game, & best of luck in whatever you decide to do…
I hate that people thumbs down the condolences people offer in their comments…just shows you how crappy and petty humans can be.
My deepest sympathies to the Starks from a guy who lost his mother recently as well
Starks is the man I hope he can find peace in such a sad situation
Randy is a great player and man, which is a testament of his parents. 54 is way too young, may his family and friends celebrate her remarkable life.
seems like a pretty level-headed young man with priorities well in order.
wish there were many more just like him – and that they didn’t have to endure such a devastating personal loss for us to see them in that light.
