The 49ers are doing what we all expected them to do, and they’re close to earning a much-needed bye week in the process.

They’ve pulled out to a 24-6 lead in the fourth quarter, leaving them pulling for the Vikings. If Minnesota holds on to beat Green Bay, and the 49ers win, they’d clinch the NFC’s second seed.

With defensive tackle Justin Smith ailing, they need every moment of rest they can muster. Wide receiver Michael Crabtree is doing all he can, with seven catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Now they just need more from Adrian Peterson and they’re well on their way.
