Bills do just enough to grab lead in first half

There were two consequential plays in the first half between the Jets and the Bills and the Bills made both of them, leaving them with a 14-9 lead as they enter the final half of their season.

Bryan Scott returned a Mark Sanchez interception 20 yards for the Bills’ first score and C.J. Spiller took a screen 66 yards for another score in the second quarter. Spiller’s play was another triumph of his speed and athleticism, two things that seem totally out of place in a game that’s been otherwise unimpressive offensively.

The Jets have run well, allowing them to run up a 16-minute edge in time of possession and a 43-12 edge in offensive plays, but they’ve settled for three field goals because they have no way to threaten in the red zone. The Bills have done nothing with their limited opportunities. Ryan Fitzpatrick is 2-for-9 for 40 yards outside of the big play to Spiller while Sanchez is 8-of-15 for 85 yards when he puts the ball in the air.

It’s been a perfect example why the fans of both AFC East teams would like to see new quarterbacks come the 2013 season. They’re stuck with these two guys for the next 30 minutes, though, so a little more patience is needed.
