Ravens loss sets up Colts’ return to Baltimore

Houston Texans v Indianapolis Colts Getty Images

The Ravens treated the regular-season finale like a garden-variety preseason game.  Baltimore’s wild-card playoff game will be anything but.

By losing to the Bengals on Sunday by the score of 23-17, the Ravens have locked in to the No. 4 seed.  Which means that they’ll host the fifth-seeded Colts next weekend.

Which means that Jim Irsay will be loading up the Mayflower and returning to Baltimore, at least for a day.

The other connections are numerous, and intriguing.  Colts coach Chuck Pagano served as Baltimore’s defensive coordinator in 2011.  Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell served as Indy’s head coach through 2011.  Some Ravens players shaved their heads in support of Pagano.

And the Colts look more than good enough to go to Baltimore and win the game — especially since the Ravens have looked bad enough lately to lose it.

Way to go Baltymore, your team has LOSTand been exposed again!!!! Ravens fans must be proud. Let me lay out your season for you. You may be LUCKY to win if you play the colts next week only because its a home game before getting creamed in the divisionals against denver. Cheers!!!!!!

  4. Nofoolnodrool says: Dec 30, 2012 4:46 PM

I would fear the colts if I were a tee shirt boys fan. I have new Super Bowl pompoms for you to use when you are sitting at home watching someone else play ravenator. They are not the ones you have used for the last four years either. Cheers mate!

wow…exposed in a game where the ravens played mostly backups…nice to see you so called know it all fans know what you are talking about. enjoy watching the ravens in the playoffs. you know…since the steelers didnt quite get there.

  7. logicalvoicesays says: Dec 30, 2012 4:59 PM

Perfect opponent to shake the rust off for Baltimore. Luck will throw picks all day.

  8. redlobster1984 says: Dec 30, 2012 5:00 PM

Steelcurtainn I’m going to assume being a steelers fan you posess below average intelligence . The ravens sat out Lewis , Suggs , pollard , yanda , and pulled Flacco and rice after two series their backups nearly beat cincys starters

  9. nicepak381 says: Dec 30, 2012 5:05 PM

Indy played well today, but I don’t see them beating the Ravens at home. Ravens could have won today if they had no chosen to rest guys. Last week they proved they are back on track. They will beat the Colts and give Denver all they can handle at Milehigh. As a Pats fan, the Ravens and Broncos are the two biggest threats.

  10. pghguyy says: Dec 30, 2012 5:06 PM

The way they just took care of the texans, the ravens are gonna be lucked out of the playoffs.

  11. raqaiw says: Dec 30, 2012 5:08 PM

Attention Steelers fans:saying anything to teams going to the playoffs while your team sits at 8-8 is pathetic, just like he steelers. Get ready for the draft.

  12. sizzle78 says: Dec 30, 2012 5:09 PM

Steelcurtain…let me lay out your season to you….walk into locker room, take shower, clean out lockers, have final team meeting, leave facilities until mini-camp

  13. ravenator says: Dec 30, 2012 5:10 PM

jealousy blinds you steeler fans. You do realize it was the backups of the Ravens dominating the first stringers that ousted you out of the playoffs this year. Keep living in the past. I understand if it takes another 3 years of this trend for you to wake up. Your days are over. Next year Pittsburgh will be fighting with the Browns to establish the bottom feeders of the AFCN.

  14. golonger says: Dec 30, 2012 5:17 PM

All the Wal-Marts and gas stations across the country are rejoicing. No need to find temporary help as the Steelers have no more games.

  15. ianwetpantscom says: Dec 30, 2012 5:18 PM

Irsay going back to Baltimore… that could be dangerous, just say’n.

  16. guitarkevin says: Dec 30, 2012 5:20 PM

    Ravens should beat the Colts.

And to all you morons out there. The Ravens sat their starters like 5 minutes into the game today, so get real if you think the loss today has any bearing on their status.

  17. ravensman says: Dec 30, 2012 5:21 PM

I have to admit I am extremely embarrassed the way Cincinnati’s first string pushed our second and third string around! And then seeing the way the Steeler’s first string manhandled Cleveland’s second string, I’m writing a letter to Roger Goddell demanding that the Steelers be in the playoffs.

Haha, I was so gonna say something, but then I read this. You’re right. I’ll wait until next week.

Ooh, does the Baltimore – Indianapolis rivalry have new found friction?

This could make a nice story.

  20. steelcurtainn says: Dec 30, 2012 5:47 PM

Riiiiiight!!!!!Just like it was the backups against denver, washington and charlie batch( the steelers backup)(all losses)…….Bottomline: the ravens are done in two weeks tops. Not rubbing it in, but take off the blind sunglasses, the ravens truly are pretenders.

Pittsburgh will be at top of division next year and for years to come. They are the elite of the division! it was a disaseter that they finished 8-8 and had so much more promise in the beginning. 8-8 for them is awful but for rest of afc north that actually is not bad a year.

I will give you this ravens are a tough team but in no way shape or form are they so much better than pittsburgh ever!

  22. mbart94 says: Dec 30, 2012 6:14 PM

Stupid decision by Harbaugh not to play whole game with starters and try to get the W and play Cincy again next week. The Colts look unstoppable. Very poor coaching decision. Cincy is in your division and you have played them twice and are so familiar with them.

  23. scoobies05 says: Dec 30, 2012 6:15 PM

ravens qualified for the playoffs with 2 weeks to go and won the division with a week to go. how is that backing in to the playoffs. think before you post people…especially you fans of teams that have didnt make the playoffs

  24. lezmaka says: Dec 30, 2012 6:16 PM

With Chuck Pagano returning to Baltimore and after all he’s been through this year, I wonder if Baltimore is still going to be the usual bitter whiny babies and put “Indy” on the scoreboard instead of “Colts?”

  25. oldirtyman says: Dec 30, 2012 7:00 PM

Ravens played well enough to play next week, Steelers DID NOT, get over it.

It warms my heart to see you little puppies nipping at the big dogs heels. You steal a bone every now and then but someone always comes along amend steals it from you. Little puppies get very frustrated…just saying.

  29. Nofoolnodrool says: Dec 30, 2012 8:16 PM

I didn’t think you were allowed to think on a raven thread…my mistake or was it?

Good luck in the playoffs and would hope you win but that would make your insufferable fans more difficult to deal with.

  30. steel420 says: Dec 30, 2012 8:30 PM

Even if the Ravens used backups today they still lost 4 of their last 5 games. That’s no way to enter the playoffs, but at least they still got there. For now.

  31. guitarkevin says: Dec 30, 2012 8:52 PM

Ravens = In the playoffs where there is still a possibility to win a Super Bowl.

    Steelers = S.O.L.

Steelers=super bowl appearances(not bragging about rings don’t want to hurt tender feelings)

Insufferable fans? You’ve commented on a Ravens thread like 8 times, find a hobby drool.

For all u squealer fans talking, please keep yapping. For the 5th year in a row we made the dance. And in each of those we won at least one game. So, we have never 1 and done the playoffs like you did against Tom freaking tebow last year. Looking at our second string today, I’d say we still have depth and talent. To go 10-6, win the division despite losing ray Lewis, lardarius Webb, Jamel McClain Etc for large pieces of the season says a lot for our coaching staff. Anyway, enjoy watching the playoffs while your team cools their jets and our team plays on AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

The Ravens got “BATCH SLAPPED” by a 3rd string 38 year old QB in front of the M&T Bank stadium home crowd. And they will as always lose in the playoffs and never sniff another Superbowl, unlike the Steelers who have been to the Superbowl 3 times in the last decade.

  39. scoobies05 says: Dec 30, 2012 10:53 PM

….while the allmighty steelers lost to the imposing titans raiders chargers and oh yeah the ravens at heinz field. enjoy your decline as we enjoy the playoffs

  41. footballalldayeveryday says: Dec 31, 2012 12:27 AM

This comments section sounds like a Jr High locker room. Just drop your drawers, get out the rulers and settle this once and for all. I am getting sick of reading your lame attacks and your even more lame retorts. I don’t mind trash talking but you guys sound like a bunch of Jim Rome rejects.

  45. crownofthehelmet says: Dec 31, 2012 9:33 AM

It’s funny the Ravens fans playing the “we had our back-ups in” card, when the same fans pre-empted the Steeler match-up with, “when we beat you, no excuses for having your back-up QB in”. You guys really should keep track of what you say.

  46. golonger says: Dec 31, 2012 10:55 AM

Whats funny about it? Having a back-up for one player is much different than 3/4 of the team!

  47. scharffy13 says: Jan 1, 2013 2:06 AM

    Hey all…

It doesn’t matter. The Colts own Baltimore AND Indy. Flacco blows, and Luck is going keep the streak alive…
