With plenty of head-coaching jobs coming open and not necessarily a slew of high-end head coaches to fill the vacancies, Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton likely will be in high demand, given the well-above-average job he has done with the team’s defense.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, it’s already starting. The Cardinals, we’re told, have received “several” requests from other teams to interview Horton.
Of course, Horton may not make it very far beyond Arizona. It has been rumored for weeks that the Cardinals are considering swapping out Ken Whisenhunt for Horton. Indeed, the fact that Horton will have plenty of suitors likely hastened the effort in Arizona, ensuring that they’ll at least have an opportunity to get his attention before he potentially goes elsewhere.
Even though Horton remains under contract with the Cardinals, assistant coaches are free to leave if being promoted to head-coaching positions.
