All 3 of the Falcons’ coordinators could be gone next year. Every single one. Oh, and their Director of Player Personnel, too.

John Harbaugh was never a “pure”special teams coach. He coached both special team and defensive backs and, at least, one of his units (DBs) stood out for 2 years before he got the head coaching gig.

So how about the fact that Armstrong was a defensive specialist for three colleges and the Atlanta Falcons before he became a special teams coach?

You give Harbaugh the benefit of the doubt, but not Armstrong?

and who said he was “so much in demand” this is the only interview he’s had.

This isn’t a Rooney Rule interview. Armstrong has history with both the Bears and Emery. He overlapped Emery’s time in Chicago before and he was with him in Atlanta for a year. Armstrong coached Chicago’s special teams when Emery was a scout from 97-00 and they were together in 08 too.

It’s real simple. The Rooney Rule does not give a pass for teams that have fired minority coaches.

The rule requires every team to interview at least one prospective coach. It’s not like they re-interviewed Smith or Crennell for the job.

Last time I checked he’s interviewing for the Bears and Chiefs…two teams with former minority Head Coaches. Why would they make a game of complying with the Rooney Rule if they clearly don’t have a problem hiring a minority coach?

Not really that big a deal Lovie got fired after 10-6. Coaches have been fired for doing more. Marty Schottenheimer was famously fired after going 14-2 with the Chargers. Steve Mariucci got fired after going 10-6 and 12-4 the year before with the 49ers. Both guys actually made the playoffs in their last seasons.
