Smith had been with Jacksonville since day 1 in 1995 and had worked his ways through the ranks, so it’s easy to understand why some felt loyalty to the guy. But he was obviously in over his head and he made some of the dumbest draft picks I have ever seen. Four years of being the Draft Czar and not one pro-bowler in the bunch. That pretty much spells failure.

But he’ll still get paid for those extra two years that Wayne Weaver inexplicably signed him to on his last day owning the team.

Things can only get better in Jacksonville, so let’s hope the owner rewards these fantastic fans for their loyalty to such a horrible, horrible team.

I don’t know that Shad Khan is set on reacquiring Tebow, I think he realizes that Gabbert will be a better QB in the long run. For the poster saying that Blaine was a “mistake” and “set the franchise back”, of the quarterbacks drafted top 10 over the past four seasons, (Stafford, Sanchez, Bradford, Newton, Locker, Gabbert, Luck, Griffin, Tannehill), Blaine finished with a better passer rating than half of them. Ahead of Sanchez, Locker, Luck, and Tannehill. Right behind Stafford and Bradford. Only Griffin, who didn’t throw the ball much, and Newton, who picked up his numbers after the Panthers were eliminated from the playoffs, were substantially ahead. Of that group, Blaine is the youngest, the lowest drafted, and the lowest paid.

The Gabbert pick can finally be moved on from. I said it at the time, if Shanahan who I do think has as good of an eye for QB talent as you’ll get passed on him, he wasn’t that worth taking, but the Jaguar fans thought they got a steal somehow.

Just be happy that the new rookie scale allows you to dump busts like this relatively quickly now.
