John Harbaugh dodges questions about Ray Lewis

John Harbaugh AP

It’s widely believed that linebacker Ray Lewis will return from a torn triceps muscle to play for the Ravens when Baltimore welcomes the Colts back to town for the eighth time.

Coach John Harbaugh won’t be confirming that until he absolutely has to.

“It’s all going to be a game-time decision, as far as anybody knows,” Harbaugh said Monday, via CSNBaltimore.com.  “This is the playoffs, and we’re not taking about injuries.  We’re not talking about activations.  We really don’t care what you or anybody else thinks about that.”

They should care what the league office thinks, but as long as the injury report is complete there’s no further obligation to say anything about player injuries.Though the Ravens previously were fined $20,000 for failing to disclose that safety Ed Reed had a shoulder injury, the consequences for fudging the injury report are a relatively minor cost of doing business — especially when the business entails chasing a championship.

doesn’t matter…..ravens are not as good as their record. the new colts are going to beat the old colts.

…and he’s absolutely right to. As long as it’s within the rules, every facet of competitive advantage should be on the table.

ray ray WAS a great linebacker. Unfortunately, WAS is at least three years ago. Now he chases backs and receivers and jumps on piles. ray remains a great inspirational speaker, but little else.

This team will be lucky to win this week and, even if they do, will be blown off the field the following week. This defense is just not very good and the offense has to try to overcome joe flaccid every other week.

I think the bungles have a heck of a lot better shot at making some noise in this year’s playoffs, but I don’t think either team is going to last long.

Best of luck to all the playoff teams. We got what we deserved this year, a seat on the sidelines.

    GO STEELERS!

Why does the media insist that this is a big story? As a Colts fan, I could care less. We are probably better off if Lewis plays. He’ll make more contact with his warm up act than he will in the game. It’s over for him. He can’t run or shed blocks any more. I fear Ed Reed much more.

Does anybody, especially Raven’s fans, think that the Ravens are “chasing a championship” this year?
    Give me a break!

  8. Canyonero says: Dec 31, 2012 8:17 PM

Dude, I hate the Baltimore Ravens but Coach Harbaugh is doing the exact right thing there. Disclose nothing you don’t have to.

Especially about a player like Ray Lewis, who is going to get talked about.

  9. speakerfothehouse says: Dec 31, 2012 8:22 PM

    As a Ravens fan,
I cant argue that Ray Lewis is well past his prime.
He is clearly not a game changer anymore. He can be serviceable as a two-down back. If his ego accepts that then all is well IMO. If he comes back and makes some big plays my opinion on the WILL NOT CHANGE, but I would be ECSTATIC!
The D has been playing pretty well since the bye week, some scores might not indicate that due to the offense crapping the bed.

If we get hot we can def play with any team in the league, with Joe Flacco and this offense. That is a BIG “if”.

To all steeler fans hahahahahahaha another playoff birth and another week iof raven football followed by hopefully three more. This makes five years in a row with playoffs no other team in the nfl can say that. Maybe we won’t win the Superbowl this year but only one team can say that. So those who are haters I say we continue to win and provide great playoff football to the city of Baltimore

The linebackers are starting to get it together and play well, don’t mess it up Harbaugh and put Ray back in. Love the guy and what he did for the team, but its time. To the Steelers fans commenting, take it like a man and accept your lot this year. Even if we don’t go far in the playoffs, at least I get to go to my stadium and watch my team play another game Sunday; how bout you? Oh, that’s right you will be watching my team play too…

Just one statistic to consider when it comes to tired old pile- jumping Ray… The Ravens are 5-1 with him in the lineup this year. And that one loss, by one point on a blown PI call by a replacement ref in week 2 at Philly.

Something Steelers fans should consider while they’re sitting at home like their players this weekend watching him dance outta the tunnel to another victory.

  29. ravenmaniacisback says: Dec 31, 2012 11:00 PM

Stillerz1…if anyone knows anything about WAShed up defensive players it is your fan base….Polomalold, foote, hampton, keisel, harrison, clark, holy crap…your entire defense is geriatric!
Feel good that your team will be watching the playoffs from the same location as you…..the COUCH! In my best Robert Plant voice….And there closing the stairway to seven…..let the playoff drought begin!

Hairball is an arrogant jerk. Ratbirds will lose. They should have easily been 6-10. They can’t play with the big boys.

  34. ravenmuscle says: Jan 1, 2013 1:12 AM

As long as Rapistbugger is the quarterback the stoolers will stink forever. They have an ancient defense and a meathead for a coach.

Love RayRay, but he’s done. I hope he goes to our shard almamater and DCs.

  39. 95lloyd says: Jan 1, 2013 5:46 AM

John Harbaugh is an idiot. Do you really think tea,s care who plays and who doesn’t at this point. He should be more concerned on firing Cam Cameron during the season. Baltimore ruined their chance to win a Superbowl.

  40. pabrownsfan says: Jan 1, 2013 6:17 AM

Best of luck to the Ravens and Cinci. They both deserve to be in the playoffs. For the steeler fans that feel the need to post get some class. Your team is home just like mine is!

LOL. What a bunch of mullet heads.

  42. watermelon1 says: Jan 1, 2013 9:15 AM

It’s not harbaughs decision to comment on. If ray Lewis wants to come back, he’ll come back… Whether Harbaugh wants him back or not.

Ray Lewis carries so much pull with the ravens that he will control who is or isn’t the defensive coordinator next year.

  43. scoobies05 says: Jan 1, 2013 9:25 AM

could have easily been 6 and 10 and yet the ravens are 10 and 6. only 2 bad losses and 4 close games that they could have won. i love have people who think they know what they are talking about say they should have been this or that. face facts…ravens are 10 and 6. thats their record. they are in the playoffs. sorry if your favorite team isnt as good. you are just gonna have to deal with it

Colts fan here, I’m just glad that my Colts are in the playoffs, NOBODY, I mean NOBODY thought the Colts were going to be even a .500 team,
Ray was a great LB and I hope he plays, don’t want to hear the excuses, Ed Reed is still a great player,he is the one to fear,
But, you Raven fans, u have to think in the back of your minds this is not a guarantee win for you,
We have Pagano, and B.A as coaches, they know your defense, We have a team that can beat anybody and at the sametime lose to anybody, Packs thought too it was going to be a cake walk., 1/2 of of the team have never been in the playoffs ever, 9 starters are rookies, we are banged up just like the Ravens are, but this I know, We have a better record and WE HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE, YOU have everything to lose, this IS a must win for the Raven, or it will just be another bust year, Maybe a good time to rebuild,
If we lose, it will be alright here in INDY, we had a great season, and with the cap money we have next year, it will be even better.
TO all the RAVEN fan next week, from a Colts season ticket holder since 1984, GOOD LUCK next weekend, your Ravens had better play 100% for 4 quarters until the clock reads 0 , if they don’t the only thing I can say is remember the Lions game,
What ever happens next week, I will still be proud of my Colts, GO BLUE !!!!!

Lewis was activated last week. That means he isn’t on the 8 week IR and technically is healthy, not needing to be on the injury report.

Harbaugh is within his right to withold comment on whether Lewis will play or not. It could simply be Lewis needs to get some more reps before he plays.

If I were him, I’d keep the Colts guessing.

  51. cztikhldr4evr says: Jan 1, 2013 2:09 PM

Guessing ? Makes no difference, non factor, its Ed Reed who is the factor,
Ray was a great LB in his time, I hate to say it , his time has run out, Brackett was our Ray Lewis, when his time ran out he too was a non factor,
Lots of respect for Ray, every team and fan feared him, not anymore, sorry, I hope he plays,

  52. ravenator says: Jan 1, 2013 3:05 PM

Such a sad group of steeler fans posting. It must be hard knowing the Ravens are relevant while the Steelers are just an after thought. Unfortunately for you trolls, there will be many continuous years of mediocrity, get used to it. I said it during the preseason, it’d be Ravens, Cincy and Pittsburgh and the Browns fighting to stay out of the basement. Looks like I was right. Cheers!
