Go Bears!!!

Although Chicago was no longer a good fit for Lovie, He is A great coach. When things get stale, it's time to go. Not making playoffs 5 out of last 6 years does not secure anyone's job. Good luck Lovie, hope you don't beat us to the Super Bowl!

"If you Cutler lovers out there really believe that Lovie Smith was the problem this season since they started out 7 and 1 you are delusional. Why was one guy, “Peanut’Tillman the only name you ever heard on defense? Because he was THE ONLY GUY playin! If a defense falling apart and a bad quarterback are reasons to fire a coach then there should be about 25 jobs open…not just 6."

First of all, Jay Cutler (29-13 in his last 42 starts) was not the problem, without him the Bears go 6-10 instead of 10-6...And Tillman was great, but so were Jennings, Melton, and Peppers.

Not me who's delusional.

We gonna start out the year playin monkey see monkey do? WTH people?!? Just because the author mentions the Rooney rule DOES NOT mean that 6 teams are looking to use it. What 6 teams expressing interest in a coach, ANY COACH means that they are looking at his exploits, not to exploit him. Come on man! For a couple of seasons Lovie's defense was compared to the great Bears defenses of the past. That he has been saddled with a mope of an underachieving quarterback is not being mentioned. You Chicago fans don’t get it…..you will never, ever win with Jay Cutler at QB
---------------------------------------------------------------
If Cutler is the problem,
how many Superbowls did the Bears win before he came along. Answer 1 and that was over 25 years ago.Cutler may not be a "franchise qb"but he's still the best qb the bears have had for decades.

For ALL of the people who say that the "Rooney Rule" is so stupid, racist, and outdated.....you should
know that if it WASN'T for that rule existing, there wouldn't be as many black coaches in the league today. THINK about college football......NO TYPE OF ROONEY RULE, BUT YET MANY MORE HEAD COACHING POSITIONS, THAT ARE STILL
ABOUT 99.9% HELD BY WHITE COACHES. But I'm sure that the people crying about the RR, are white people that believe that the owners would have even STARTED hiring minorities on their own in the first place. Al Davis was different now. It ALWAYS happens. Bears were TERRIBLE before Lovie got there. 10 wins and gone. T Dungy/TB flashback. Set it up for somebody else after bring franchise back from the dead. Then maybe we'll let u coach another bottom feeding team. Dennis Green did the same thing in MN/AZ.

Anybody bringing up the Rooney Rule ought to just shut up. Smith has enough on his resume to simple be of interest to teams. The actual abuse of the Rooney Rule is that every damn time a black coach gets interviewed a bunch of half-wits think it is some kind of affirmative action thing. He is qualified for the damn job. The Bears have had four OCs in five years, really great for a stable offense. Their O-line is crappy at best, and as far as I know Smith didn't make the personnel decisions for the Bears. Not saying it wasn't time for a change, but he isn't being talked to for the RR.

As a Bears fan, I am happy to see Lovie gone. Bottom line, he is a very lousy in-game coach. The team wastes timeouts - at least a couple in the first quarter. His challenges are horrible. He does not make any halftime adjustments.

He makes bad decisions - like the 4th down call to go for it this year against Seattle in the beginning of the 2nd quarter. I knew that would come back to haunt the Bears. On top of it all, the bears ran it when they were getting anything on the ground.

His bend but not break defense that relies on turnovers counts on luck and mistakes by other teams. This works great against bad teams, but stinks against a good offense.

While he was not the GM, he had a hand in very poor drafts.

Lovie needs a pulse. He stands there like a mope when he needs to work the refs and fire up the team.

In the end, he was very average, and that does not bring championships.

He seems like a good person, but he is not great coach. He was unable to hide behind another coordinator getting fired again

No one seems to be mentioning (and it has been reported) that Lovie could have had a two-year extension earlier this year, but he wanted more years.

So Lovie has no one to blame but himself; there is no way the Bears (or most other NFL teams) would have dismissed a guy they had just signed to contract extension.

Smith will find other work; not every team is going to get their 1st or even 2nd choice and Lovie will look like a better option than an "Assistant Coach Choice D." But Emery had little choice; the clock is going to start ticking on him and he may as well have it be with his guy. Lovie's record just wasn't good enough for Emery to stick HIS neck out.

Lovie is a good solid coach. I think he is generating interest because of his prior successess, not because he is a minority candidate.

He will be a HC in the NFL next year.
