NFL 2013 offseason coaching, front office hiring and firing tracker

This is PFT’s regularly updated list of all hirings, firings, vacancies and changes on coaching staffs and front offices throughout the NFL heading into 2013. Every announced, reported and rumored change will be right here.

Arizona Cardinals: General Manager Rod Graves and head coach Ken Whisenhunt have been fired. Team president Michael Bidwell said he’d interview former Eagles head coach Andy Reid, Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and his own defensive coordinator Ray Horton. They’ve also asked to interview Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley.

Atlanta Falcons: Signed offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter to a contract extension, keeping him in the fold for at least another year despite Koetter drawing interest from the Chiefs, Browns and Eagles.

Buffalo Bills: Head coach Chan Gailey has been fired. Former Syracuse coach Doug Marrone has been hired to replace Gailey. Russ Brandon has been installed as team president with control of the football operations while Doug Whaley is being groomed to take over for Buddy Nix at General Manager down the road.

Carolina Panthers: Head coach Ron Rivera has not heard whether he will be fired or retained. The General Manager vacancy may be filled by a member of the Giants’ front office, with college scouting director Marc Ross and senior pro personnel analyst Dave Gettleman considered candidates.

Chicago Bears: Head coach Lovie Smith has been fired. They’ve already asked for permission to interview Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, along with Falcons special teams coach Keith Armstrong and Buccaneers offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan. They added Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis to the list Tuesday. Packers offensive coordinator Tom Clements has joined the list of coaching candidates as well. The team has requested permission to interview Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians. Texans offensive coordinator Rick Dennison will interview for the job and Montreal Alouettes coach Marc Trestman is also on the list.

Cleveland Browns: Head coach Pat Shurmur and General Manager Tom Heckert have been fired. Owner Jimmy Haslam said he wanted to hire a coach first, then a personnel man. They’ll interview Oregon’s Chip Kelly either Friday, after having already met with Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton.

Detroit Lions: Head coach Jim Schwartz is safe despite talk that he could be on the hot seat. General Manager Martin Mayhew could be on the hot seat.

Jacksonville Jaguars: General Manager Gene Smith has been fired. Head coach Mike Mularkey’s fate will be determined by Smith’s replacement. The Jags have asked permission to interview 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble.

Kansas City Chiefs: Head coach Romeo Crennel has been fired. General Manager Scott Pioli was also fired four days later. Former Eagles coach Andy Reid has agreed to become the next Chiefs coach.

Miami Dolphins: General Manager Jeff Ireland is expected to return for the 2013 season.

New York Jets: General Manager Mike Tannenbaum has been fired. Head coach Rex Ryan will remain. Offensive coordinator Tony Sparano is expected to be fired. The Jets have asked permission to interview 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble. They have also received permission to interview Giants college scouting director Marc Ross. Add Atlanta’s David Caldwell and former Browns GM Tom Heckert to the list as well.

Oakland Raiders: Offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and several members of the coaching staff will be fired.

Philadelphia Eagles: Head coach Andy Reid has been fired. Jon Gruden is a rumored candidate to replace Reid. Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan has also been identified as a candidate. They have also arranged for an interview with Oregon’s Chip Kelly.

San Diego Chargers: Head coach Norv Turner and General Manager A.J. Smith have been fired. Chargers owner Dean Spanos has brought in former Packers GM Ron Wolf as a consultant.

Tennessee Titans: Head coach Mike Munchak will be back for 2013. Senior executive V.P./COO Mike Reinfeldt was fired.
