I would LOVE Arians as HC, Romeo as DC, and a young, energetic college coach as the OC. As a PSU fan, I hope O’Brien returns to Hapy Valley for years to come.

Rexgrossman8 and everyone who says the Rooney rule doesn’t work I agree that a lot of teams don’t take it seriously but it does work just ask mike tomlin. It’s not a perfect solution but it has worked when taken seriously. Now my question is does Norm Chow qualify as a Rooney rule canidate?

And seriously the Rooney Rule… Come on NFL it is 2013 we should be past forcing employers to interview a minority candidate, if there is a black or Mexican candidate that is qualified they will get the opportunity like everyone else. If I were black and a team wanted to interview me for the color of my skin and not my qualifications I’d be ashamed and would not interview. Frankly it is racist to have this rule, and the people throwing a fit to institute this rule are flat out ignorant

Koetter would be a perfect fit, he can retain the culture of setting the league on fire during the regular season then laying an egg in the playoffs the eagles are so used to, and that the falcons are mastering.

I agree with Denverdave3 and to change the subject a bit, that’s why I don’t like the whole property rights thing in politics. There is no way in hell I want to be interviewed or even hired for a job because I’m a ‘minority’. I want to be considered because you think that I can get the job done.

As somebody once said. I’d rather know a company is openly racist then work form and they subliminally are. And before somebody takes it out of context, not saying football has racism I was just applying the context for the common man.

Rooney rule is a joke. now because of this rule every team needs to have a token interview with a token black, hispanic or Asian guy. all it does is put MORE emphasis in race.

Those candidates are all a downgrade from Reid, just my opinion! Not quite sure what coaches some of these teams think are out there, but so far not very encouraging for these teams

Lovie Smith wasn’t the only Head Coach fired today. Romeo Crenel was let go as well. Either of them could be the “token” Rooney Rule candidate that you all think Lovie Smith will fill. Also, I am sure there are plenty of other black coaches out there, coordinator or assistant, that could fill it as well.

Actually, that is not quite true.

When Bill Cowher “Retired” the Steelers were set to hire Russ Grimm to take over. But since they were required to follow the Rooney Rule, named after their own owner, they gave Mike Tomlin the token interview. They originally had ZERO intent of hiring him, as they loved Grimm.

But they were blown away by Tomlin, and his intensity, that they had their minds changed.

At least that is the story I have heard repeatedly by Mike Francessa on NY Sports Radio.

So who knows?

It is also thought that the Rooney Rule helped Leslie Frazier get interviews he would not have normally gotten, and he did end up getting the Vikings job.

I don’t think it is a bad rule, if it is taken seriously by teams.

I think the real problem is in the College Ranks, not the NFL.

There’s a story that the Eagles are interviewing all three of the Falcons coordinators on Wendseday; I believe that their ST coordinator is black.

If I was a die-hard Eagles fan, I would be all over either ATL OC Dirk Koetter. Koetter will eventually land a job as soon as 2013, & the Eagles personnel fit his style of offense (minus the QB only because idk too much about Foles). The skies the limit for McCoy, Maclin, Jackson, Avant, etc under Koetter’s system. He seems very hungry to move up the rankings & sure enough, he broke us some records here in JAX (although we never had the personnel to excel like he has employed now in ATL), & he’s doing a superb job with the Falcons. Believe what u want, but I think Koetter would fit the script up in Philly, just sayin.

The rooney rule is so embarrassing and insulting. If I was black I would never stoop to interviewing for a job just to fill a quota when I knew I wasn’t who they wanted and was only being put through a charade because of the color of my skin. It’s just so stupid.

The Rooney Rule seems humiliating more than it is productive. I don’t think a team is going to choose a coach they’re obligated to interview over a coach they are actually interested in. but hey who am I?
