I’m no Jets fan, but this another example of the media trying to create the news instead of just report it. There is absolutely no indication that Ryan has asked for more power or to be involved in the GM search. And after the way things have gone there over the last couple seasons I highly doubt he’d have the brass to ask or demand anything. But by the media throwing this nonsense out there, the team would now be forced to address a “situation” that the media just literally pulled out of their most southerly orifice.

Stop trying to create the news. Stop trying to insert yourself in the process.

Terry Bradway is still with the Jets and still making personnel choices in the organization. Say what you will about Rex but if they don’t clean out guys like Bradway too they’ll still have issues.

I couldn’t agree more. The Jets are going to have a hard time finding a competent GM while forcing a holdover coach on him. It’s not a secret that Rex Ryan isn’t liked amongst fellow head coaches & front office personnel outside Florham Park. The Jets need a complete culture change & it will be difficult for a GM to institute that change without having his own coach to institute his plan on the players & staff. I still think Rex’s job is on shaky ground & he could be fired once it is clear a competent GM will not be willing to come to the Jets with Rex in place. The Jets may have to allow the new GM to fire Rex & replace him as a hiring condition just to attract a good replacement for Tannenbaum. If Rex stays, it’s doing nothing but prolonging the inevitable, a repeat of 2012 in 2013, just as firing Schottenheimer & keeping Sanchez last year was prolonging the inevitable.

The Jets Circus continues.

The next GM will have full autonomy to do what needs to be done – with the exception of picking a head coach, starting quarterback and other limitations to his authority.

This should end well.

Maybe Johnson skipped being at the game simply because he didn’t want to watch the Jets play. It would be hard to blame him if that was the case.

Please fire Rex. Too much drama, too much crying one day, boasting the next, too many defensive breakdowns, and way, way too much talk. Oh, and hiring Sparano and acquiring Tebow were his moves, too. He is a likeable guy, which is why most Jet fans want him to stay, but he is not very bright and not a very good coach.

And as for the 2 AFC Championship games, the Jets were barely more than an 8-8 team that lucked out. And on the biggest stage vs. the Steelers, the Jets came out and laid an egg, falling behind 24-3. That’s coaching, and all too typical of the Rex Ryan years.

The new GM will get instant respect from the fans if he cuts Mark Sanchez. If he fires Rex, so be it. It should be his choice.

Rex is a good defensive coach, but lets not forget his defenses alway folded at critical times.

At least this firing is a step in the right direction. There have to be a lot more changes, but a new GM is the first move. Hopefully Sanchez and Tebow will be leaving, but if they can’t move Sanchez he’ll be the most expensive back up in the NFL thanks to Tannenbaum.

Nothing says I’m a clueless NFL owner like “we’ve hired a search firm to fill our “position.” How about learning what you need to fix your team instead of hiring somebody from the outside to fill the most important role in the organization Wooddy?

Stop saying, I’ll hire somebody to try to be like x and finally get a Jet philosophy from top to bottom that employees that come through the door all fall in line with, which means everyone would be on the same page.

You make an interesting point. When Sanchez first came into the league, he looked like a reasonable approximation of an NFL QB. Problem was, he never got any better, and in fact has been regressing. Coaching? Could be.

Who are you to say Rex didn’t get the most out of the talent he was given this year? You routinely report on this website that Tannenbaum did a terrible job getting quality players, which I think we are all in agreement with that. So, if we’re in agreement that the roster sucked, what exactly would qualify as getting “the most of the talent he had?” Just a couple weeks ago the team was playing on Monday night for a shot to be 7-7 with playoff hopes still alive with two weeks to go; for a team that, as you have said numerous times, was devoid of any meaningful talent this year, that seems like a pretty good job by Rex to me.

Disagree that Rex didn’t get most out of his “talent”
The team had very little with no backups and that’s the GM when you’re running out Raider and Fins WR castoffs your in serious trouble!!!!
The Teblow circus is what it is he was forced on Rex by Woody to sell jerseys….

Rex is a great defensive coach. He’s also not bad at leading and motivating a whole team. I’m fine with him as HC but the new GM and OC have to have complete control of the offensive personnel and tactics.

Also, a better QB wouldn’t hurt.

Rex would have needed to accomplish something tangible in order to have ammunition to fight a turf war with the suits. Losing two AFC Championships a few years ago isn’t that strong of a body of work.
