If, and that appears to be the issue here, Jon wants to return to coaching, what is holding him back? Jobs in Philly , Chi (glory) , in Clev (hometown) are now available for him. I suspect he wants more than that. The $$$ will be available anywhere. I say he takes care of unfinished business ( ego ) and Jon goes back to a place that appreciates him, and coined the name, Chucky.

I feel like Gruden is nearing the Bill Cowher stage of his life … that is, being a broadcaster is a nice, cushy gig, and he won’t leave unless it’s for the perfect job (with reports that Cowher supposedly is only waiting on the Giants gig, if Coughlin ever gets fired).

As a Bears fan, I’d love to have Gruden in Chicago. First and foremost, I believe his WCO, one that emphasizes the running attack, would be a great fit for Cutler, akin to when Cutler was in Denver with the Shanahan’s (I have briefly wondered if Kyle Shanahan might be a good fit for the Bears as well). Then, there’s the fact that Gruden might be able to convince Marinelli to stay around, and if not, he might be able to bring in Monte Kiffin, which would keep the same defensive philosophy. Considering the mix of veteran 4-3 personnel in place, keeping the same scheme is important.

I think the Bears would be a great fit for Gruden. He gets a solid veteran defense that still has a year or so left. The defense has started to add some youngsters for the future. Offensively, he has a strong armed QB, 2 big WR’s, and a star RB.

All that said, Gruden would want too much control, and I doubt Emery will give up his hard-earned gig. I’m guessing the Bears go with someone from the assistant ranks. Mike McCoy or Mike Sullivan make a lot of sense.

I hope Gruden doesn’t get a HC gig in the NFL or CFB. I really enjoy listening to him call games. His love affair with QB’s playing in games he calls can be annoying at time, but the insight and detail he brings when talking about specific offensive plays is very informative.

There are only two teams that are set at quarterback. If Gruden does come back he would want a team with the QB already in place. That would be Chicago and the Chargers. The weather sure in nice in San Diego.

Gilbride didn’t develop Eli Manning…The Quarterbacks coach and his dad did. I am a die hard Giants fan, and love Eli, but the Giants defense was mostly responsible for the success against Brady.

Gruden far prefers being a celebrity to being an actual coach. He can win with someone else’s players, and be content if he gets enough camera time, but build? That’s for non-celebrity coaches.

if his choice is staying in the booth where he is 2nd only to John Madden as far as popularity or throwing his carrer down the toilet in taking the Broens job, I think its an easy decision. Not sure why (besiudes money) that anyone would ever want that job. They keep changing coaches and QBs every 2 years and they never get better. Who ever takes it, 2 things are for sure. 1) most Browns fans will act like he is the best ever and “next year is the year” IT WONT BE! 2) they will win 5 games, and the organization will cave to the stupid fan base and change again.. Its career suicide.

Why Isn’t anybody after Kevin Gillbride?The man won 2 Super Bowls as the offensive coordinator with the New York Giants and he developed Eli Manning into a great QB.The man has all the Qualities to be successful as head coach in the NFL.

In the history of the Super Bowl era, being 47 years old in February, no NFL head coach has won multiple Super Bowls with 2 different teams.

Only Shula, Parcells, Vermeil, and Holmgren have taken 2 different teams to the holy grail, but were fortunate to have only one once.

Gruden to Chicago, would be fitting. Then he can take over another cover2 team like he did in Tampa. Take a team with an established defense and put a so so offense with it to try and win a Superbowl with someone else’s team. Why build when you can inherit?
