If Wilson went to Jacksonville, do you really think he’d have done as well (as in Seattle)? Gabbert ~~might not~~ probably won’t be the solution in Jacksonville, but he’s far from the biggest problem.

As for Anger, he was one of the league’s best punters as a rookie, which is unheard of. If you do this search in Google – “preseason punter rankings” – the first result is an article at Pro Football Focus Fantasy that explains why drafting Anger was actually capitalizing on a market inefficiency.

The teams, media and fans aren’t properly evaluating the importance of field position as relates to scoring points. From Round 3 on in the 2012 draft, very few players are likely to deliver as much value to their teams as Anger will to the Jaguars.

For all of the things Gene Smith rightfully gets pilloried for, this particular gripe is unfounded.

Here’s the thing: how many teams are in NEED of a first rd QB? I’d say cards and chiefs. That’s it. Every other team is set or has much more glaring needs that push clipboard holders back a few rounds. Say geno goes to kc and the cards stick with kolb if Reid comes in. Then Barkley falls into at LEAST the second rd. that being said- maybe Barkley should pass on the green room invite for draft day.

JaMarcus could throw the ball like no other. He was the “Run down the field and I will get it to you,” as every LSU fan knew, and that kind of ball won’t do in the NFL.

Lots of intangibles that don’t show up on stat sheets.

You’re missing the point. Every couple years, we have to hear about USC QBs and how they are the next best thing. And every couple years we find out, much like USC’s mind numbingly unexplainable preseason #1 rankings, they are over hyped and over rated. We know not one school is a QB factory, but unlike with USC, no other school claims to have the next stud in the draft.

And they will regret it. This is a fifth round quarterback that is getting first round hype. Picked Before RGIII If he entered the 2012 draft???

Folks, learn a lesson from teams that do not have bowl games. They do not have any added pressure by worrying about a prestigious, but less than profitable waste of time.

Why else Do college teams play well after the undefeated streak is over? They know that the object of the game is to win and that their scholarships are one-year renewable deals.

That is enough pressure for the players

I’d be surprised if he gets out of the first round. I’m just glad Oakland is sitting to high to take him, and if he does fall out of the first, they don’t have a high second to use on him.

Let me know of a school that regularly produces top NFL QB’s. There are none.

USC QBs never work out in the NFL. Palmer is the best I can think of and he had only like 3-4 really good seasons.

Jeff Tedford coached Quarterbacks – Trent Dilfer, David Carr, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, Kyle Boller……then some scrum named Aaron Rodgers came along.

Or also the history of other possitions like Penn State runningbacks Blair Thomas, Curtis Ennis, Ki-Jana Carter until Larry Johnson came along.
