Blair Walsh wins another player of the week honor

Vikings rookie Blair Walsh has already proven himself to be a good kicker, but he’s showing he can hit at big times as well.

For making last week’s game-winning, playoff-clinching field goal as time expired, he was named NFC special teams player of the week. It was his third such honor this year.

Walsh’s 54-yarder in the first quarter was his 10th of the year from at least 50, extending his own NFL record for most in a single season. He hasn’t missed from that distance this year.

His accuracy from long distance has been a key for an offense that for large parts of the year was Adrian Peterson and not much else, and that will be more important as they head into the playoffs.

Amazing find by the Vikings. He was bad his senior year in college. They fixed something mechanical in his approach and he has had an incredible season.

I’m finding it hard not to praise this guy as a true difference maker in the NFL. The guy is 10 for 10 from over 50 yards, that is an asset nobody else has in this league. By week 5 he had more touchbacks than Ryan Longwell had the entire 2011 season. The Blair Walsh project looks like a long term success for this club.

Hopefully this accuracy translates in the frozen tundra of Lambeau field.

    Go Vikings!

The guy had no special teams coach at Georgia and still had a great career. A little coaching at the pro level and his talent has really started to come out. Congrats Walsh!

There are many Bears fans who applaud the hard work and dedication that Blair Walsh put into the lead-up to Week 17.

I remember when the Vikings signed this guy. He had missed something like 50% of his kicks in college. Everyone on here including myself were questioning what the Vikings were doing signing him. One mechanical error in his approach they identified and he is the best kicker in the league, as a rookie none the less!

Amazing find by the front office. Well done Blair Walsh, well done.

The Vikings front office appears to have finally figured out a way to evaluate talent coming into the league. The last couple of drafts have gone well for Spielman and his staff. Keep up the good work!!!!!

I almost got laughed out of my draft for taking him in the 12th round. They had to write him in!! Kid had 25 and 16 points in the playoffs for me and won me both my leagues!!

Just imagine where the Vikes would be if they could evaluate talent at all positions like they did with this kid

He was beyond awesome at UGA, then something got in his head or something during his senior year and he turned absolutely awful. Glad to see he got “it” back.

Undeserved. That last kick was wide. I was at the game & I saw it go wide. The game should have gone into OT.
