Vikings rookie Blair Walsh has already proven himself to be a good kicker, but he’s showing he can hit at big times as well.

For making last week’s game-winning, playoff-clinching field goal as time expired, he was named NFC special teams player of the week. It was his third such honor this year.

Walsh’s 54-yarder in the first quarter was his 10th of the year from at least 50, extending his own NFL record for most in a single season. He hasn’t missed from that distance this year.

His accuracy from long distance has been a key for an offense that for large parts of the year was Adrian Peterson and not much else, and that will be more important as they head into the playoffs.
