Castillo is great O-Line hire. He could be a good Defensive Coordinator someday. His first season as DC wasn't very good, but then again it was a lockout year with a first time DC...

This year, at the beginning when he was fired, the Defense was not the biggest problem, Turnover Mike Vick and the offense were horrible. The defense became swiss cheese after Castillo left.

But its good that hes going back to what made him a good coach to begin with. I am glad both of these coaches are out of the NFC.

What I want to see is who will Andy take as his QB? Is he even on the roster?

Did you watch the Panthers this year? Or did you take the ill-informed media's take on Carolina? I actually watched the Panthers Defense this year.. Not too shabby at all. They finished 10th this year in total Defense. And probably have the defensive rookie of the year who lead the NFL in tackles.

Castillo actually wasn't that bad a Defensive coordinator. The first season started off rough and then started gaining traction. When he was fired at the beginning of the past season, his defense was the bright spot on that team. The defense wasn't turning over the ball at an alarming rate, that was Vick and that horrible offense with good defensive play keeping them in those games. His defense was actually doing a great job at keeping the play in front of them and controlling the tempo of the game. Once he was fired, the defense really went to junk.

Just because it wasn't the most popular choice doesn't mean it was a failure statistically. With conventional front line play instead of that wide nine garbage, it could have been even better. They fired the wrong guy in Philly and replaced him with the wrong guys. That doesn't go on Reid, that goes on the GM and owner who wanted the moves made.

People like to pretend Castillo was a bad D Coordinator. The evidence speaks to the contrary. The Eagles also tried placing the blame on Sean McDermott, who has gone on t have success as a D Coordinator on another team.

As an Eagles fan this will be a great hire by Reid. Castillo was a great o-line coach but not a good D coordinator. But I hope the Chiefs don't pick a QB at #1. Most likely Reid will take an o-lineman or d-lineman there.

sgtroc Andy stinks, i like him as a guy but as a coach i'm so thankful hes gone.

Andy Reid was 26-51 against playoff teams (teams that made the playoffs that season) he’s 66-61 since his 04′ Superbowl loss to New England, so 8 years of mediocreness… he’s 33-33 since Jim Johnson was no longer defensive coordinator… Andy Reid might be the most overrated coach of all time… I HAVE NO IDEA why the national media praises this guy.. Adam Schefter “Schefty” from ESPN called his time in Philadelphia legendary.. um he needs at least 1 superbowl to be legendary and he doesnt even have that… he failed in the big games, his team failed him when favorite a few NFC Championships…. he is just a coach that is capable of beating up bad teams… look at the NFC in the 1st half of the decade of 2000 when he was coach…. The packers and 49ers were in a downspin from there dominant days in the 90′s… the Cowboys had qb’s like Quincy Carter and Drew Bledsoe… the Redskins had Jeff George and just about any other scrub qb come through there… the Giants had Kerry Collins… and he even got them to the superbowl in 2000! but seriously Kerry Collins?? As an Eagles fan i’m a realist and i know Andy Reid beat up on the NFC and NFC East when they had down years and it’s no secret that now the NFC is back and booming, his team has sucked the last 3 years… I’ll also mention that Andy Reid inherited future pro bowl players by the Ray Rhodes regime before him in Brian Dawkins, Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, Hugh Douglas and Jerimiah Trotter. That was half his great defense he had and if it were up to him he’d have no ability to draft any of those, so he’s basically extremely lucky. His best move in 14 years of being the head coach was signing Jim Johnson as the Defensive Coordinator because he was the biggest part of his success.

Yeh, this is one decision I haven't heard mentioned as people point out Reid's failures/shortcomings as a coach. Lots about poor decisions for play calling and game management, but this would have to rank right up there. One must question his decision making since he thought this was a good idea.
