I say Reid is a great coach. Is he the best coach? No, but Reid is a great coach. The best coaches in my opinion are locked up for the long haul. Guys like Payton, Belichick, McCarthy, Tomlin etc.

I think folks forget that he lost a child at the onset of the season. That is a tone-setting event for the rest of your life…let alone a season. So while Andy Reid may have poorly coached this year, give the man a break he lost something much more precious than his job.

Eagles fans are well aware he lost a child at the onset of the season. Is it our duty to feel bad for him? Perhaps. Was it his duty to take a season off to mourn? Perhaps. If his contract paid him $75,000.00 instead of $5,000,000.00 to coach for the 2012 season would he have taken off to mourn? Perhaps. Do I personally feel bad he lost a child? Yes. Do I recognize he chose to work for $5,000,000.00 in a job held by only 31 other people in the world? Yes. Do that job come with pressure? Yes. Did you chose that job, and therefore choose the pressure? Yes.

Iditos like the person who posted the above comment should be asking: Why was this great man, this man who is so deserving of our sympathy, this pillar of greatness, why was he not there for his wife and family as they mourn something so much more precious than his job, which takes an average 14 hours a day?

Greed, not coaching, is what I think of when I hear Andy Reids name.

That is even without debating the merits of his statement. Andy Reid has a 10-9 record in the playoffs, so about half the time the talent was even they were outcoached. Is half of the time a lot? I’ll let you judge. I just ask that you watch all of the Eagles NFC Championship games and lone Super Bowl appearance first.

Trot also said Andy Reid is a 7.5 to 8 out of ten. Which says that Trot thinks he’s a pretty damn good football coach, just that he isn’t a great football coach and was stating the reasons he isn’t great. It’s far from an indictment. But it does make a good headline.

This year, you are correct, the turnoever were terrible

However, this year and last are the only 2 years since the FO was perged and Reid was given “final say” over everything player related. So they were 100% his teams. You can’t pick the players and complain that the players aren’t good enough. The last 2 years were a direct result of horrible drafts that were run by Reid himself (Just for the most obvious, Graham over JPP or E Thomas, or a 26 year old rookie who only played football for 6 years in the 1st, and the later rounds didn’t get any better)

Reid enjoyed years of success due to a defensive coordinator who outclassed every other coordinator in the NFL at the time. He also had Westbrook and a prime McNabb. Reid didn’t coach Trotter… Johnson did. Look up the defensive trends of the Eagles post-Johnson…

Philly fans aren’t idiots… they’re passionate. You’re an idiot thinking a head coach like Reid makes the difference for Philadelphia. What did he do without Jim Johnson? How’d his personnel decisions turn out?

I’ll give you a hint, they line up behind the center, and the ones that play for the Pack and the Pats can actually hit the water in the ocean, unlike Reid’s 2 long term QB’s

But as far as the accuracy of the statement, there is no doubt. Like was mentioned above, he is below .500 against playoff teams. His refusal to run the ball, even though for the past 8 years at least, the best player on the team has been his RB (Westbrook and McCoy after that), is legendary. Go back over the stats, especailly when they had the bruiser line anchored by Runyan. They are always top 5 in YPC, but always bottom 5 in carries.

Then the insistance on making players fit his system, instead of making the system fit the players (a 65% passing offense with Pinkston and Thrash as the WR? Vick is your starter, but you are still going to throw 50 times a game? Same question but with the oline going down?)

I always thought Reid was a good coach. An amazing planner, a good motivator, but a terrible game manager (both as far as time-outs, and adjusting his gameplan on the fly)

To me, he is a good coach, top half of the league, but his insistance on proving that he is smarter than everyone else, and that he can make things work that everybody knows won’t work, is his downfall

He’s basically saying that the Eagles were much more superior to other teams in the NFC during Reid’s first 10 years there, which is absurd. Not only does the salary cap era prevent such from taking place today, but it also disregards the difficulty of winning games in the NFL.

Philly fans are idiots. I’ve never seen a fan base blast the two bests of their franchise’s history just because they couldn’t get over the hump like they do with Reid and McNabb. You’ve never heard Bill fans be so classless about their runner up teams.

Trotter stated what a lot of us knew in Philly during the McNabb era… Reid’s clock management was atrocious, and their come from behind ability with <3min on the clock was non-existent. Why? Because they never had timeouts by the time the clock was under 3 minutes due to piss poor time management.

Overall, Reid was a good coach with good decisions at coordinator during his first half of coaching with the Eagles. After '04, he was an average to poor coach for Philadelphia. His drafts in the past 3 seasons are proof.

I really can’t believe the Eagles fired this guy. He went to the playoffs 9 times out of 14 seasons in a tough division.

If Reid doesnt realize the toll his offense had on the defense, he is a much much worse coach than Trotter is saying.

And who exactly is to say that JJ, or Dawkins, or Trotter, or anyone didnt tell Reid he needs to back off of his pass game and actually use some clock time?

In case you missed it…Andy Reid coached the Eagled with Donovan McNabb for 9 years. And he still refused to admit at the end that McNabb could not throw a decent slant route. Andy Reid did not learn from his mistakes. He made them repeatedly for 14 years. Same mistakes in year 14 that he made in year 1.
