Nope, the worst call in professional sports came from Ben Dreith in the 1976 division playoff, an absolute FARCE of a roughing the passer call that that sent an undeserving Raider team to the Super Bowl over a superior Patriots team.

Did Al pay off the ref? It sure looked like it.

The Pats were the best team in the NFL in 76 and the Raiders and the ref stole what would have been the team’s first Super Bowl championship. And now we’re even. The tuck rule controversy was sweet, SWEET revenge. It couldn’t have happened any more perfectly than it did.

Funny how Raider fan crying about this call conveniently forgets that one.

I’m a Pats fan that has no problem admitting that Brady fumbled on that play, and the Pats season was saved on a technicality.

I wouldn’t have scripted it any differently than that. It was the perfect payback for 25 years earlier when the worst call in NFL history from a senile ref sent the Raiders to an undeserved Super Bowl berth at the expense of a superior Patriots team.

It is amusing that Raider Fan is way more outraged about this call than they were about their team getting completely owned by the Bucs and their ex coach in the Super Bowl the year after… and sent that franchise into a tailspin that they have never recovered from.

Maybe they can go back and change some other rules that would help the mighty Raiders convert a 2nd and 2 or stop the Pats from going right down the field on them 3 times at the end of the game and OT to win it. I’m sure they could find something.

You know it’s not like they have rules for a reson fans always get mad when refs follow the rule book or raider fans for that matter it happened 10 years ago get over seriously still whining its not like the pats went on to win 3 supers over the next four years or become the winningest team since 2001. When your on top that long haters are going to hate so all you jealous patriot/ New England sports haters its not our fault we call Boston our home and since 2001 our teams have generally been one of the best teams in their respective leagues. We don’t call home Title Town for nothing. Everybody hates on teams from the Northeast just cause we are better than your teams and then you revert back to your 13 year old girl selves land blab about your problems of the Internet no one cares! There are apparently a lot of fans out there ignorant about how often the tuck rule is applied each week in the NFL

They seem to actually think its only been used in the case of Brady – where the Competition Committee ITSELF confirmed the rule as properly called and applied – or now in the case of Luck.

This is about the Luck play, which was the 2nd worst call of the season …

Regarding the game from 10 yrs ago, the Raiders had several opportunities to win the game after the tuck rule play. Get over it.

The lawyers are ruining the game by devising stupid rules such as this one. They attempt to fix a small problem and create a much larger and unintended problem. As of now, with many specific rules (somehow written vaguely), the officials can apply the same rule and come to opposite conclusions. Get back to simple rules and the officials would do a better job and replay would actually be used to get calls right rather than create additional controversy.

1) If the arm is going forward to throw a legal pass and the ball is released it is an incomplete pass. Everything else is a fumble.

2) If a player catches the ball, controls it and has two feet (one knee, etc.) in bounds it is a catch…there is no “follow through” on catching the ball.

3) There is no such thing as a “defenseless” player on the field.

There are many more but these three would be a good start.

If the Patriots Defense would have caused a fumble and then gotten ruled as a tuck rule, then the rule would be removed.

Oh wait…that would never happen. The Tuck Rule is so arbitrary it would never happen. That is exactly the way the Refs like it, so they can throw the game to Brady.

The call the tuck rule to hurt teams like the Raiders and the Ravens, but to help teams that they want to help to a Superbowl..like the Patriots.

Get rid of the Regular Refs…Bring back the replacement Refs, I am sick of watching the Patriots steal games.

At what point does it not become a tuck? Is it when both hands are on the ball? Not only is it a worthless rule, referees and rules committee officials don’t even know why it’s in place. Either ur throwing a pass or ur not. But it is a rule so it’s more like, ur either tucking the ball or ur running with it. Take a close look at the infamous play that knocked the Raiders out of the AFC Championship game. Brady is tucking the ball but before Woodsen knocks the ball out, Brady has the ball in both hands. He is no longer tucking the ball. It is now tucked and he is now a runner. Unfortunately, misinformed referee Walt Coleman made one of the worst blunders in NFL Playoff history and claimed that Brady was attempting a pass, thus resulting with an incomplete pass. In the post game interview with Tom Brady, he did say he was attempting a pass when the ball was knocked out. Brady is a great QB but he’s also a pathetic liar. It’s a shame that the NFL doesn’t make the referees accountable for unacceptable mistakes. Just ask the Seattle Seahawks about that…

Did the Raiders get away with crap (head hunting, stick’em (I know back then it was allowed, till the NFL banned it.), the Holy Roller), and all kinds of stuff? Didn’t they benefit from bad rules, and officiating?

Raider fans are starting to sound like Seahawk fans (who should not even talk since that “Fail Mary” happened) still crying about Super Bowl 40.

I mean, this movement of trying to put imaginary *s on the Patriots Super Bowl, and trying to act like Tom Brady isn’t all that great, is just nonsense. IF I want to hear that crap, I could turn on ESPN.

Every team has either been effected, or been helped by either a bad rule or bad officiating.

That is my point.

Oh and the WORST ref call in NFL history was in fact during a Patriots /Raiders game..but it happened years earlier when a PHANTOM “roughing the passer” call was called against the patriots after they had stopped the Raiders…game would have been over…but nope…mystery flag….BS call…raiders go on to win the Super Bowl….amazing hopw raiders fans have no memory of that…

Any fan of the game saw that play and thought it was a fumble. I don’t think the rule was applied corretoy, i.e., “if the player has tucked the ball into his body and then loses possession, it is a fumble.”. At the very least nothing in the replay was conclusive enough to overturn the call on the field. The shame was this was Gruden’s last game as coach of the Raiders. I think it’s fair to assume that if they go on to the super bowl (they still would’ve had to beat the Steelers), Gruden’s stays and they win it the next year. Instead they traded Gruden’s and they haven’t been the same since.

That blown call killed Texans momentum and changed the outcome of the game but nobody talks about all these regular ref’s blown calls 2012-2013. I am not a Texans fan but wactching Luck panick to recover as the ball is strip fumbled out of his hand was a clear indicator. I was watching the game and couldn’t believe it when they overturned to the call on the field. How do they only change that rule now???

The Bleacherreport lists the roughing the passer call on the Pat’s Ray Hamilton that gave the Raiders the a playoff win and a Superbowl, as the #2 worst blown call of all time, just behind the Music City Miracle. So please, please please, Raider fans, most of whom are LA Raider fans that are too young to remember this game, let the proper enforcement of the tuck rule goooooooo……….. the bitterness is killing YOU, not the other guys.

It was a game changer, and it took the life out of the Raiders. When the call was ruled a fumble, you could just see how deflated the Patriot players were, and when the call was reversed, that deflation went over to Oakland, and they couldn’t recover. I agree with Charles Woodson that it was a bulls–t call, but I don’t expect the Patriots or their fans to apologize for it. I don’t feel bad about the Holy Roller.

This certainly doesn’t help the Raiders now, especially when this BS call not only helped the Pats go to a Super Bowl that the Raiders should have gone to, but it also started the downward spiral the poor Raiders are STILL stuck in!! To make matters worse (of course), the call also helped the Pats move in the opposite direction, making the playoffs every season and winning numerous rings! I thought the NFL was trying to make things a bit more fair on the field but this “tuck rule” BS did the opposite and should have been thrown out that very same year (since ONLY Pats fans believed it was a incompletion); NOT 15 years later!! Maybe, if they do FINALLY get rid of it, the Pats will start losing more often and stop making the playoffs every year, while Oakland returns to it’s former glory and start making the playoffs every season and possibly even winning a ring!!! That would be SO awesome to witness!!

What constitutes a “tuck” to you if that’s not it? Would Brady have to gently place the football snugly under some blankets in a crib alongside its favorite teddy bear?

Let’s just ignore the fact that the rule may have been applied exactly one time in the history of pro football prior to that play for a second. The bottom line is it was still tucked.

Now that Al Davis is dead they are trying to be in good terms with the Raiders. Why don’t the NFL give The Raiders 3 superbowl rings too since Raiders would of had 3 if that BS call was never made up. Raiders would of went on to beat the Rams and from there would of went on to win 2 more Superbowls. The tuck rule really killed the Raiders future.
I have no doubt Kraft had those refs in his back pocket, i believe he still does have a handful of refs in his pocket. I even think Goodell is on the pay roll, well there is no doubt about that. Pats got caught cheating and their head coach does not even get suspended for 1 game! NFL suspends saints coach for rewarding players making good plays

Also, the refs use the review as a crutch, so call anything they aren’t 100% sure on a TD or a turnover. Combine that with needing “indisputable evidence” to overturn a call, and it leads to the perfect storm of debauchery that the NFL officiating has turned into.
