Tate still says he caught the ball

Tate

The notorious “Fail Mary” play from the last game of Week Three didn’t help the Seahawks make it to the playoffs, but it did help the 49ers secure a bye week that otherwise would have gone to the Packers.

As the postseason approaches, the man who was determined to have caught the ball at the conclusion of the Seahawks-Packers still insists that he did. Appearing Thursday on Pro Football Talk, Seattle receiver Golden Tate said he definitely caught the ball that was determined to have been in the simultaneous possession of Tate and defensive back M.D. Jennings.

“I absolutely did catch the ball,” Tate told Erik Kuselias. “Till my death I did catch the ball and I’m very confident that I caught the ball.”

Plenty of people dispute that opinion. Of course, there’s no dispute that Tate pushed off before catching (or not catching) the ball.

Our only hope is that the fifth-seeded Seahawks and the third-seeded Packers cross paths again in the postseason.
