Aaron Rodgers brushes it off after Greg Jennings’ sister rips him

Chiefs Packers Football AP

Aaron Rodgers says Greg Jennings‘ sister will not create a rift between the Packers’ starting quarterback and veteran receiver.

During Sunday’s loss to the Vikings, Jennings’ sister, Valyncia Jennings, ripped Rodgers in a series of Twitter messages, which she has since deleted. Here’s a sample:

Why was that ball under thrown like that, he was wide open make the throw for the receiver!!! Geeez!!” Valyncia wrote. “My God Aaron Rodgers holds the ball forever! GJ was wide open 5x for that touchdown! Goodness he acts like he doesn’t want to throw to him😑. . . GJ is the only receiver that has to jump in the air with both hands up . . . Aaron Rodgers smh! Had him in the slot wide open no one even covered him! Where is Peyton Manning when u need him! This is utterly pathetic. . . Who can make a play @GregJennings can! He’s the best freakin receiver these clowns got! Now take your talents to south beach & get paid! . . . ARod is the most overrated QB in the league! He is no where near Peyton or Brady! It sickens me, Peyton would avg. 5 TD with this squad!!!”

Rodgers, however, says he takes no offense to that.

β€œThat kind of stuff is never going to come between myself and my teammates,” Rodgers said on ESPN Milwaukee, via the Green Bay Press-Gazette. β€œThat’s never going to become between Greg and I. We got a great relationship . . . not going to fault Greg or his sister for anything that was said. I mean it was family and emotions. Not a big deal.”

Valyncia doesn’t appear to be a football expert (is she really under the impression that her brother is “the only receiver that has to jump in the air with both hands up” to catch the ball?) so it’s not surprising that Rodgers is easily able to brush off her criticism. And it surely won’t change the way the Packers’ offense plays in Saturday night’s rematch with the Vikings: Jennings caught a season-high eight passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns in Minnesota, so despite what Valyncia might think, the Rodgers-Jennings connection is the least of the Packers’ worries.

Rodgers might be upset if Jennings doesn’t put distance between the statements and himself. He can support his sister for her opinion but make sure that his QB knows he has his back. I suspect that allready happened. Not a big deal.

Rodgers needs to be getting more MVP consideration. The packers didnt have a 1000 rusher or receiver, and if not for the replacement refs, would still have a bye. If he didnt win it last year or the 2 guys in consideration werent coming off injury, rodgers would be at the top of the list.

Aarron Rodgers is a system QB. I tell you this and you all know it. Look at Matt Flynn. Rodgers himself knows it that is why he gets half the salary of guys like Brady, Manning and Brees. Aarron Rodgers is a good quarterback but he is not in the same class the the big three.

  26. packerbackernj says: Jan 5, 2013 9:24 AM

Everyone who posted “rodgers is overrated,” would take him on their squad in a heartbeat. Anyone who said “look at what matt flynn did, rodgers is a system qb,” is a fool. Matt flynn did it against detroit, its not like he had an amazing game over the 2000 ravens.
    Finally i found this funny.
” You know, she’s entitled to her own opinion. I’m going to give her a call and let her see the playbook and maybe she’ll be more satisfied with the playbook this week and see if I’m implemented as much as she would like.” – Greg Jennings

I love me some jennings, hes a special player. I hope he doesnt leave next year. If he does ill always remember the superbowl he won with us and the catch he made.

  27. cdm6d says: Jan 5, 2013 9:25 AM

Anybody that claims Rodgers is overrated should not be allowed to talk about football ever again. How delusional and stupid can one be? Anyways, I think that Greg’s sister wants him to “go to south beach and get paid” as she said because she mooches off him and his game checks. You wouldn’t prefer Tannehill throwing Greg the ball, Valyncia. Your brother is very fortunate to be where he is.

Rodgers is class all the way?Hahahaha , he’s real classy the way he had a tamper tantrum in front of his coach, jordy and tons of Vikings fans in da dome. He will carry a grudge on Jennings that follows him to philbin. Keep it up gb , vikings fans can’t get enough of this implosion .! Skol

  31. uwsptke says: Jan 5, 2013 9:30 AM

If Aaron Rodgers is a system QB, why isn’t everyone running this system? Is Ryan Tannehill going to win the ROY award with Philbin running the same system? You people are ridiculous. By your definition, Dan Marino was a system QB. I mean, look at Scott Mitchell. He played awesome for a few games and then sucked when he left. Do you see how crazy that sounds? And Rodgers hasn’t gotten a big money deal yet because they extended him just a few games into his first year as a starter. Stop your drivel.

  32. teal379 says: Jan 5, 2013 9:30 AM

Ah yes – love the fans calling AR overrated and a system QB. Notice how they’re usually fans of teams that AREN’T playing much after Jan 1, that the “proof” he’s a system QB is a guy who is 2nd string to a first year rookie from the Big 10?

I sure am glad Green Bay runs a “system” that creates QBs who have career passing completion percentages above 65, averages 4000 yards plus a year passing, 34 TDs a year to 10 Ints – on average, and a 104.9 passer rating – on average. Make the playoffs 4/5 years, superbowl wins, superbowl MVP.

I just don’t understand why more teams DON’T run that system? I look around the league and see guys like Carson Palmer, Mike Vick, Fitzgerald, Sanchez, Cutler, McCoy, Kolb, and others – I wonder why those teams just don’t use the GB system, if that’s all it is, to get their QB play to a point where the team is watchable, much less competitive.

  33. acmepacker says: Jan 5, 2013 9:30 AM

Glad to see Rodgers didn’t allow himself to get caught up in a stupid rant that had the potential to cause disunity in the team. Jennings has been Rodgers favorite target for a long time and they’ve had a good connection, and he certainly wouldn’t allow pettiness to influence a football game. The sister needs to talk about things she understands.

  34. bleed4philly says: Jan 5, 2013 9:33 AM

  45. burrito12 says: Jan 5, 2013 9:48 AM

People who call Rodgers a system QB are just ignorant, football illiterate, jealous morons. Explain to us how a “system” enables a qb like Rodgers to throw with pinpoint accurancy on back shoulder throws that leave CB’s spinning? Stats don’t lie queen and bears fans. And that commment by that bandwagon queen fan about the Packers implosion is hilarious. Packers were 11-5 (12-4) and NFC north champs. Love the people saying Arod is overrated. I am a vikes fan living in WI so I get to watch pretty much every Packer game. I have never seen in my lifetime a quarterback who recognizes the blitz and his subsequent reads faster or throws with more velocity and accuracy on the run. Arod this year covered up injuries, a suspect O-line, no running game, and an average at best defense, still willing the packers to the playoffs and nearly a first round bye. While I sincerely hope he lays an egg tonight, there is no shame in losing to a player like that.

Aaron Rodgers is not overrated. Along with the usual “he had injuries, bad o-line, etc” comments, he also had the highest passer rating (108) this season, 2+ points higher than second place. He has the highest career passer rating (104ish). The Passer Rating is simply a measurement of a quarterback’s efficiency considering pass attempts, completions, td’s and picks. So, yeah, he’s not overrated. He’s efficient and effective on a team that is not perfectly suited to his style of play. neener neener neener. Tough game tonight, though.

    ———————————————————-
There’s no way you can seriously mean that. Finley is one of the least intelligent players in the NFL. He has played awful until late and he likes to chalk it up to chemistry. No Jermichael, it is because you have stone hands. And Jennings’ wife made sure to tweet that Valyncia’s thoughts were not their own. I like Greg, it isn’t his fault his sister has a big mouth. But it also certainly doesn’t say anything about Rodgers. The guy can’t win….For example, the 60 minutes piece did nothing to promote the MACC fund and just go on and on about his height. He complains about that and people claim that HE wanted praise for doing it. Ridiculous.

I don’t know Rodgers personally of course, but nothing out there can lead to the assumption he is a bad guy or has no character. It was Jermichael being Jermichael and a loud mouth sister who wanted a bigger paycheck from her bro so she could mooch some more.

Even IF Jennings feels that way(and I bet the house he doesn’t, he’s never said one bad word about AR that I know of) it’s like what 2 dudes ever who talked dumb stuff about AR?

AR is the best QB in the NFL, and he is NOT a system anything. I’ve never seen another QB that accurate let alone one who has every physical talent you want in a QB.

Another thought, this Valyncia person probably has a fan in the wife of my teams’ (Pats) QB who also feels it’s appropriate to rip on her guy’s teammates in public. It’s disgusting. SHUT UP. Text that stuff to your friends, keep it out of the public eye. It’s so low class and selfish to do it in public and make your relative have to deal with it.

How in the world is Drew Brees clearly better than Aaron Rodgers? Brees has had great OLine – especially left tackle and guards since he’s been with the Saints. He actually has a running game and a lot of receiving threats too. Yet he routinely throws 15-20 picks a season. The only reason he throws for more TDs and Yds than Aaron is because he throws 100-150 more passes per season. Rodgers also has higher completion percentage even though he plays home games outdoors. Lastly Rodgers has beaten Brees last 2 times he’s played him and 2-1 overall.

I understand Peyton and Brady but now way is Drew Brees better than Rodgers.

Jennings whiffed with both hands on the best throw any QB had made all year, when Rodgers threw on the run, across his body, with pinpoint accuracy 50 yds down the field against the Vikes last week.

Jennings sister, Jennings, Finley … these guys need to pipe down and appreciate the greatness they’re around. They’ll miss it when Kevin Kolb or Mark Sanchez are their QBs next year, cuz the Packers are going to pass and not miss a beat.

Did someone on here really say Drew Brees is better than Aaron Rodgers? Drew Brees is average when he doesn’t have his dome loafers on.

How embarrassing for Jennings!! I would kill my sister for making asinine comments like that. If you’re bro is a real pro then “act like you been there before” and know when and where to speak crap.

I agree with jhicks. A system qb? Look what Matt Cassel did in his year in New England and look at him now. There is a system for you.
