APAfter playing more on special teams than on defense during the regular season, inside linebacker Barrett Ruud will be a starter in the postseason.
As we noted would likely be the case thanks to the Texans’ injuries at the position, the team has officially announced that Ruud is starting today against the Bengals. During the regular season Ruud averaged just six snaps a game on defense, but in the playoffs he’ll be out there regularly. Inside linebackers Tim Dobbins, Darryl Sharpton and Brian Cushing are all on injured reserve for the Texans.
The only surprise on the Texans’ inactives is fullback Tyler Clutts, who played all 16 games in the regular season but will not play in today’s playoff opener. The Texans’ other inactives are CB Roc Carmichael, CB Stanford Routt, G Antoine Caldwell, T Andrew Gardner, G Cody White and NT Terrell McClain.
The Bengals’ inactives are WR Dane Sanzenbacher, CB Jason Allen, S Chris Crocker, HB Daniel Herron, DT Devon Still, DT Brandon Thompson and TE Richard Quinn.

NFL on Saturday. God I love football
Lets go Texans!!!!
Well that will help the Bengals rush offense.
Ruud will get his tackles (5-10 yards down the field) but surely the Texans have to have a better option to throw in there, hold a fan lottery or something.
Just another excuse for Houston to use after they lose. I was a big supporter of them trying to climb the hill but tumbling like they are is no way to show dominance. Time to put up or shut up!
Good thing Barrett’s a vet and gives them a lot of experience.
I’m sure the great people of Houston are very excited to see Mr. Ruud out there on defense
As a Texans fan, starting Barrett Rudd is just more bad news for a team playing bad football at the wrong time of year.
Cody White has been inactive every week this season and I have no idea why Wade Phllips loves Alan Ball so much that he is active instead of Stanford Routt. Alan Ball knows how to spell every WR’s last name in the NFL because they have all ran by him on the field.
If the Texans lose today then it will be time to discuss firing Kubiak and trading Schaub.
Could careless about Shaub getting traded ( not a texans fan) but if that’s the case, would you be happier with Matt Ryan, he hasn’t win a playoff game either. Your problem might be the coach, not the QB. Defense died after the Patriots put that beating on them, they never recovered.

As a Texans fan, it is time for Schaub and Kubiak to go. Schaub’s skillset is declining and Kubiak is too conservative to win big games.
Ruud will make a big play.
