Browns lining up G.M. candidates

The Browns are waiting to find out if Chip Kelly will be their next head coach, but that’s not stopping them from checking out possible general managers to team with Kelly or whoever else becomes their head coach.

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the Browns have requested permission to interview Vikings Assistant General Manager. George Paton. Glazer also reports that the Panthers have asked for the same permission and have a meeting set with Paton next week. Paton has been with the Vikings for six years and worked with their general manager Rick Spielman in Miami as well.

Paton passed on the opportunity to become the Rams’ general manager last offseason, choosing to stay with the Vikings after a promotion and, presumably, a bump in salary. Les Snead wound up getting the job in St. Louis.

In addition to Paton, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Browns have requested permission to interview 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble and Chiefs director or pro personnel Ray Farmer. Gamble has popped up as a candidate for several of the open jobs this offseason.
