I’m wondering if our decision to get rid of him was such a “great idea” despite his off-the field issues. Don’t be so quick to write people off. They seem to go elsewhere and do pretty good sometimes.

Going into the offseason last year, I was hoping the Bucs would sign Brandon Carr, but at least they were able to grab Carl Nicks and Vincent Jackson. With Nicks and Davin Joseph at full strength next season and some new CBs (I like Sean Smith if Miami doesn’t work out a contract or franchise him) and a couple other pieces added to the defense (Glazers moved forward money on both Jackson and Nicks contract to open up more cap space for this offseason) and the Bucs should bounce back next year. Josh Freeman should be more consistent working with the same offense for the second year in a row for the first time in his career.

But it’s time to show Eric Weight the door. Massive disappointment who will be lucky to see a third of that money on the open market.

That’s not a compliment to Wright nearly as much as an indictment of what has to be one of the most godawful CB groups in NFL history (seriously, how the @#$!! does E.J. Biggers keep his job).

There has to be somebody vaguely decent who can cover a receiver who wants to come to Tampa, right? Maybe Wright or Biggers can switch places with vendors and sell hot dogs and beer while those guys can come out and fail to cover anybody. I swear we won’t notice the difference.

To me, that means that everyone is still overlooking the Lions (as usual), or Eric Wright must have done something right when he was in Detroit in order to get consideration as a prized free agent signing. I think it’s a little bit of both.
