Redskins break out to fast start despite limping RG3

Robert Griffin III AP

It’s been a while since the Redskins have been in the playoffs, but they started their game with the Seahawks like it was old hat.

The Redskins have driven easily on the Seahawks on each of their first two possessions and lead 14-0 as a result. Everything’s clicked for Washington offensively as the Seahawks haven’t handled the deceptiveness of the Redskins attack well at all. Alfred Morris has 49 yards on eight carries, Pierre Garçon caught a 30-yarder on a well-executed play action pass and Robert Griffin III has thrown a pair of touchdown passes.

In between, the Redskins forced a three-and-out when London Fletcher and Stephen Bowen sacked Russell Wilson on third down.

Just before his second touchdown pass, which went to tight end Logan Paulsen, Griffin came up limping after an incompletion on the scramble. He’s wearing a bulky brace on the right knee he hurt near the end of the regular season and walked gingerly off the field following the score. He then went to the locker room with team personnel and there’s been no update to his status yet. That’s obviously a concern for the Redskins, although their two-touchdown lead makes it a bit less terrifying than if they’d fallen behind early.

About the only other thing that’s gone wrong for the Redskins is that left guard Kory Lichtensteiger aggravated the ankle injury that kept him out of practice all week. He’s questionable to return and Josh LeRibeus has replaced him.

NFC West teams never had a chance vs the Washington Redskins. I tried to tell them all. Who’s the rookie of the year again PFT???

  2. infectorman says: Jan 6, 2013 5:16 PM

Hags ain’t in Seattle any more and they definitively ain’t playing Buffalo or AZ.
Outside of their crib, they’re an ordinary team

  3. jh500 says: Jan 6, 2013 5:17 PM

RG3 = GOAT rookie. No one comes close.

  4. lightcleric says: Jan 6, 2013 5:18 PM

Nice job shoving RG3 to the ground a good 3 seconds after the play was over, stay classy Seahawks.

  5. larryboodry says: Jan 6, 2013 5:21 PM

Irvin deserved to be ejected for that late hit on RGIII.

  6. bigsuede says: Jan 6, 2013 5:23 PM

I think this game is showing why Luck, not RG3, was picked first.

While RG3 is amazingly talented- the guy will never be able to hold up throughout the whole season. He has the same body size as Vick and will likely have a similar career- never being able to make it through a whole season in one piece.

  7. bucslose says: Jan 6, 2013 5:25 PM

Not at all what I was expecting. We’ll see if the Seahawks can regroup.

  8. ladymacesq says: Jan 6, 2013 5:25 PM

Where are all the people who predicted Washington wouldn’t score any more than 10 points all game?

  9. niners816 says: Jan 6, 2013 5:27 PM

As a Niners fan I’m going for Washington because Seattle fans are the most annoying fans, acting like they’ve won something. But on the other hand Washington has the most ignorant fan ive ever seen post: logicalvoicesays. Good luck, Washington.

  10. ghjjf says: Jan 6, 2013 5:28 PM

Will dr. Andrews allow rg3 to return to the game?

  11. bucslose says: Jan 6, 2013 5:29 PM

First game wasnt all that great.

Seems to me that Denver has the tougher game next week, while Pats again face a Texans team whos QB doesnt belong and whos defense will not stop let alone slow down the Pats.

Damn you Texans for being failures and showing your true colors the last few weeks of the season, giving the Pats a bye. Do us a favor and just suck all year next season unless you have the balls to get rid of your QB. Shaub will take you no where.

  12. fringetastic says: Jan 6, 2013 5:29 PM

Why is the field in such crappy shape?

  13. beastmode5150 says: Jan 6, 2013 5:29 PM

    Keep talking, 3 quarters left.

What a homer statement. Luck and Wilson are on par with RG3 and this is the tightest ROY race ever. So much so that Alfred Morris isn’t even contending despite his great year.

The difference is Luck will be the only one doin this in five years

  15. jakec4 says: Jan 6, 2013 5:30 PM

They should have done something about that field. It looks like a dog track. I live in the DC/Baltimore area, and there has been no weather to speak of. Don’t understand why the free spending Skins didn’t re-sod the middle of the field this week.

  16. tennesseeoilers says: Jan 6, 2013 5:31 PM

Well into the second quarter and Griffin’s the one looking like a tough, gutsy veteran, while Russell Wilson (who I like by the way) has seemed a bit rattled and off his usual game–in other words, playing like a rookie.

  17. commonsensedude says: Jan 6, 2013 5:34 PM

“Nice job shoving RG3 to the ground a good 3 seconds after the play was over, stay classy Seahawks.”

That, unfortunately, is the Seahawks’ DNA. They’re not exactly the moral standard bearers of the NFL.

  18. beanocook says: Jan 6, 2013 5:35 PM

RGIII is humiliating the NFL. I was told running QBs don’t work in the NFL, rookies can’t win, short QBs can’t see. Lies

Wilson and RGIII have embarrassed the NFL and it’s fans. Now you have to save face by pretending RGIII is the only QB in history to get banged up.

Grasping at straws NFL fans. The best player in college football proved he was the best player in all of football.

  21. beanocook says: Jan 6, 2013 5:36 PM

How many starts did Big Ben miss? Oh that’s right, more than RGIII.

  22. anonymouslyanonymouscommentor says: Jan 6, 2013 5:44 PM

RGIII will be able to last if he learns how to be a pocket QB. So far all I see is him staring down receivers…

  23. norcalmafia says: Jan 6, 2013 5:45 PM

Seattle cheats and are probably the luckiest team in NFL history every break seeks to go thier way…Well not to lucky they are one of the most mediocre franchises in NFL history…

  24. jessethegreat says: Jan 6, 2013 5:46 PM

Best part of Seahawks taking the preditor and his foreskins out will be that it sends their fans who’ve recently taken the bags off their heads back to the closet where they belong. Russell Wilson is the rookie of the year and anyone who believes otherwise is just plain biased.

  25. otis52gsh says: Jan 6, 2013 5:46 PM

Won’t last. No way possible skins win this game. Will lose by at least 10.

  26. norcalmafia says: Jan 6, 2013 5:48 PM

OOOOH..Seattle doesnt look so hot outside of thier stadium with piped in noise..We know its not crazy fans cause theyve been voted one of the worst sports towns in America for the last six years in a row and have you ever been to Seattle? Place is laaaaaaame…

  27. cardslifer says: Jan 6, 2013 5:50 PM

Is that Robert Griffin III or Nancy Kerrigan out there?

Humiliating is a strong word. And the tide has turned in this game after that horrible pick.

I wouldn’t want to move there, but Seattle is pretty freakin cool. Been there a couple times…lot of cool places to go, lot’s of cool people. Very Beautiful.

  31. FinFan68 says: Jan 6, 2013 5:55 PM

Say what you will but the Seahawks are a team that does not seem to panic. This will be the best game of the week by far.

  32. firestarter0728 says: Jan 6, 2013 5:57 PM

Like most of these scrambling QBs, RG3 is NOTHING if he’s not a threat to run. He has neither the accuracy nor the brains to win as a pure pocket passer.

Kirk Cousins is the best QB on this team, and should be starting. Redskins fans, you know this to be true.

  33. BeachBum46 says: Jan 6, 2013 6:00 PM

Seattle is on the way back! Look out foreskin fans! Bob is hurting and it’s hurting the team.

  34. inthearex says: Jan 6, 2013 6:02 PM

seattle looks poised to steamroll in the second half.

  35. drpompanoduke says: Jan 6, 2013 6:02 PM

2nd quarter comes & redskins disappear. Ain’t playing romo & the cowboys. And a team with cheap shot hall calls another team cheap. Hilarious.

  36. flavordave says: Jan 6, 2013 6:03 PM

Its becoming clear that RG3 is no Patrick Ramsey. RG3 cant get it done. Skins are doomed. 42-14 Hawks

  37. vegashawk says: Jan 6, 2013 6:06 PM

You guys crack me up. It took Seattle approximately 2 drives to figure out the skins lame offense and they have dominated since. RGIII is limited and the momentum is completely in the Hawks favor. And they get the ball to start the 2nd half.

On a side note, tell Dan Snyder to stop diverting traffic through the stadium grass before games.

  38. rg3isvictory says: Jan 6, 2013 6:06 PM

Now this is the exciting game I was expecting to see. I hope RG3 is healthy enough to make a game of it against his ROY competition!!! Who ever wins this game will win the award!!!

  39. nomoreseasontix says: Jan 6, 2013 6:11 PM

I’ve only seen a couple of games, but it looks as if without the wheels griffin is a kind of sub-par quarterback.
The whole college offense doesn’t grab me. Looks amateurish.

  40. ddogdaddy says: Jan 6, 2013 6:42 PM

That field looks like they had a tractor pull there last weekend.

  41. beastmode5150 says: Jan 6, 2013 7:02 PM

Hey skins fans that were talking trash after ONE QUARTER, were are you.

  42. andyreidsbossoms says: Jan 6, 2013 7:07 PM

  43. romoscollarbone says: Jan 6, 2013 7:10 PM

RG had/has no business playing the past few weeks, knee has no stability. Don’t be selfish, it’s a team game. Yes you’ve elevated the fortunes of the franchise, don’t ruin it, by thinking your Superman.

  44. voiceofcommonsensesays says: Jan 6, 2013 7:10 PM

    IRG3

  45. deadrabbit79 says: Jan 6, 2013 7:14 PM

And he is going to be limping a lot longer now with that torn ACL! I know that feeling!

  46. trapshoot says: Jan 6, 2013 7:15 PM

At least RG III could walk off the field after he went down

  47. tigrrrr says: Jan 6, 2013 7:16 PM

Skins ruined that kids knee! … sad

  48. voiceofcommonsensesays says: Jan 6, 2013 7:17 PM

maybe the skins should look into trading IRG3 while a few teams might still have intrest in him, and try to get some of the picks they gave up for him. and stick with Cousins. He’s the better QB anyway.

  49. bigbluecrew420 says: Jan 6, 2013 7:23 PM

    RG1andDone

    hahaha logical

  50. immafubared says: Jan 6, 2013 7:33 PM

If I was Wash owner I would fire the head coach. RG III got hurt early and could not run or pass and you let him play until the game is out of control? No you put your other rookie and who can both run and pass and maintain that 14 point lead.
Another case that the star must play at all costs.
21 people on washington losts today because the 22 nd person couldn’t run or pass but did not stop playing.
RG III before they put more crowns on him, lets see if he can handle the punishment of the NFL. Wilson was unscathed and RG III was a beaten down player who leads with his head.

Turn the page, RG1000 is done and no more hype
    of what coulda,woulda,shoulda,ect…The very idea
of during the game the network was putting him
on the wall of fame, what a joke!! I am sure next season opener will be in jeopardy if surgery is required to repair the knee. What a bone head
mistake to let him play. The management ought
to reevaluated by the owners–do we have the right personnel running my business? Can they
be trusted in decision making? Monday
round table coming up as the RG1000 soap opera
    continues.

I actually just came in here to laugh at the trash talk some of the Skin fans did when Hawks were down 14-0. Wilson 1-0 in the playoffs. Rookie of The Year, ’nuff said.
