Players WANT to play, winners WANT the ball in their hands. RG3 is both a football player and a winner, there was no way sort of being physically restrained that he was not going to play until he broke down and he was right to do it. RG3 even on a leg and a half gave the Skins the best chance to win the football game and when nothing else matters but getting the win, you ride that guy till he can't go anymore. Barbaric? Yes. Wrong to do? Probably. No way though that a coach sits down his star QB in the playoffs unless there's just absolutely no way he can be effective at all.

Personally, I think people are being too harsh with RG3. He is very young...how many of us made some big time mistakes in our early 20's? Being tough and playing through pain is part of the football culture. The "warrior" mentality is celebrated by the players, coaches, and fans. In fact, sometimes a player's heart and very manhood is questioned if they don't play ( Phillip Rivers, anyone?)
That being said, Shanahan should be FIRED. You don't keep your franchise quarterback in the game when he's obviously injured like that! It shouldn't matter what the player says or what he wants....as the head coach, Shanahan has a responsibility to make the hard decisions. Parents don't let their children eat all of their Halloween candy at one time, even though the kids want to.
Besides, it was obvious RG3 couldn't play worth a crap
after he re-injured his knee. It didn't just affect his mobility, but it screwed up his throwing mechanics as well. Cousins gave the redskins the best chance of winning. So, not only did the skins lose a playoff game, they most likely lost their franchise quarterback as well. Hopefully RG3 is a freak of nature like Adrian Peterson and can recover quickly and be good as new.

Like most 22 year olds, he knows everything yet knows nothing.

I figured he would throw a tantrum if Shanny had pulled him out; Griffin's reaction to not playing in Cleveland gave hints at how selfish, greedy, arrogant, and foolish he truly is. Had Shanny decided to pull Griffin during the Seagull game, there would have been a true blowup. With the players so conned by his smoozing and superfluous "leadership" off the field, they would have been adversely affected on the field.

Griffin stayed on the field because he knows Kirk Cousins is far better than an average quarterback and having Cousins in the game with a half of ball to play would have given Cousins a chance to succeed. The longer Griffin stayed in, the less likely Cousins would become a darling (again) and a less of a chance of a quarterback controversy.

Griffin's selfishness, pigheadedness, idiocy, and arrogance cost his team the game. The defense played well and was holding things together. The fact that Griffin was wretched from the mid point of the second quarter on was a glaring warning sign - this guy is holding his team back.

I know what I say is unpopular but if you read Griffin by watching his body language and how he performs running the two minute offense, you get an ENTIRELY different take on this guy than the media has given you. Add to this that he was charging Redskin fans for autographs before he was drafted, and you cannot claim him to be so wonderful. He's a snow job of the first order.

Doubt me on his persona? Watch him in his last football game in college. He's selfishness and self-centered conduct was like a red-flag.

Before the game, he probably didn't have much of an ACL. Should have taken himself out for the TEAM. Now, he may have a torn medial meniscus and a torn MCL as well. Skins would have had a much better chance putting Cousins in and would have probably won in my opinion. Griffin forced his way back. Should have let it heal properly. Now, who knows if it will cost him a step or two......which is huge in NFL.

A running back needs a heart, but a quarterback needs a head. This reminds me of what happened with Derek Rose last season. You go out and play on a compromised knee until it just tears up completely.

The doctor's comments last week were telling. He obviously saw this coming. A blind man could see Griffin was hurt through much of the game yesterday and now Shanahan has mortgaged next season because he's short-sighted.

Young men are expected to make poor choices sometimes. Old men like Shanahan have no excuse. I hope the league takes a good look on how the Skins have been reporting this injury.

Mike Shanahan needs to be fired for leaving RG3 in the game and at further risk to injury. It was clear from the 2nd quarter on that RG3 was hurt and couldn't do much of anything. A stupid and stubborn decision by Shanny and it could end up costing RG3 his career. Dumb. Dumb.
I'm just your ordinary fan, but it was obvious that RG3"s knee was gone in the first quarter, when he went out of bounds before the 2nd TD. No matter how brave, tough, and stubborn RG3 was, Shanahan should have taken him out of the game. Not going into a little cubby hole to get shot up with pain killers. The doctor didn't even go in, just a trainer. Cousins had proved he could run the team, but Shanahan risked RG3s future when it was obvious he was ineffective due to his knee.

I will never forgive Shanny for this. He is going to get that kid killed eventually unless he steps in and starts acting like a coach.

I would totally understand taking the ball from RG3 when they were up 14-0 and handing it to Cousins and putting Rg3 on the bench. That might have made it a closer game or they can pull out a win.
Everybody watching the game from home, or in the stadium, your own team and the hawks team knows they have a cripple that wont come out of the game.

Its a losing decision to keep him and a slap in the face of the whole team not to try and win that game with the best QB that can field. That was not BOB.
Too many egos behind that decision.

On the other hand it made the Seahawks look better that what they are. They are a good team and I take nothing away from Russell Wilson. Still, they will get exposed. Watch.

Typical young person today. They think they are invincible. And not this not necessarily a bad thing. It was up to the Coach (and his wisdom) to guide his young star toward staying smart and healthy.

Earlier this week there was a story that pitted the Team Dr. against the Coach in a previous game about letting RG come back into a game before being cleared. One obviously lied.

Any questions?

We were wondering about why Dr. Anderson's comments came out in the media just prior to this game. Now we can guess that there was a raging debate between doctor, coach, and player about RGIII's condition going into this game.

To learn something from this, Griffin and Shanahan should ask themselves one simple question: Did I do it for the good of myself? or did I do it for the good of the team?

What makes this situation more of head shaker is that the 'Skins' Defense was playing well and that backup QB Cousins had proved himself capable earlier in the season.

I seen one play where he could've ran out of bounds but instead stayed in just for one yard over the first down marker.

If I was the coach I would've yelled at him for such a stupid move.

I hope he recovers and remembers all this next year...Don't be a hero; you've got a team next to you, use them, and run out of bounds when you can.

You don't want too much of an early retirement

I read Griffin's comments this week concerning the use of his brace and his not really needing it with concern. Clearly the young man does not understand the true nature of injury.Playing hurt is part of the game, and you cannot be successful without doing so. But the injury he suffered does not heal in three weeks. He seemed to truly believe he could play the week after he suffered it and that he was healed enough to play without his brace this week. Injuries are real. They are not just speed bumps on the way to glory.Much better players than he have had their career's and legacy's destroyed by injury. Understanding the difference between being injured and being hurt can be a difficult thing, but to be sure, there is a difference. If he does not understand the existence of this difference,he will find himself finished before he even really gets started.

Each player is different. Say the same thing happens to Suh in Detroit. He tells the coach " take me out and I will kill you". Coach is thinking that may be a real possiblity. So he keeps him in the game out of gear for his safety.
Fast forward to Redskins game. RG3 tells Shanahan "take me out and I am going to be really mad". So Shanahan leaves him in the game not because he fears for his life but because he is just an idiot and a liar who doesn't care about any of his players health or safety. I am afraid this could be the proverbial straw. What a tool.

Hawks fan here. When RG3 was unable to pick up the bad snap because his knee failed so badly he fell flat on his face not even caring what was happening with the ball, I got extremely upset at Shanahan for quite possibly ruining this young kid's career.

It was already apparent he was hurting so much he couldn't properly plant his foot, resulting in several awful throws. Any player will tell you they can still play, even if they're in effing traction, so for Shanahan to hide behind that is bush league. If the doctor says there's a risk to continue, you pull him, period. Cousins is a quite capable backup. Pure selfishness on Shanahan's part to keep Robert in the game. I hope he heals 100% and plays ELSEWHERE because clearly Washington doesn't deserve him.

Sorry, but he needs to know his place. I can think of about a dozen other players that if they were to respond with clear disregard for their coach's authority, the readers on here would murder them. The bottom line is that from the point he reaggravated his knee in the first, he was a liability to the team. He couldn't plant his foot and use it to torque the ball with any sense authority. The reason why he is so dangerous is because he keeps LBs and Safeties honest with his ability to run, and he has a cannon of an arm off the play action. He couldn't do either after he reaggravated the injury and for the benefit of his team, he should have taken himself out of the game when he knew he couldn't perfrom at a top level. Had he removed himself when he should have, the Skins may have had a chance because it is like night and day between him and Cousins. The Seahawks gameplanned for RG & his pistol, "gimmick" offense. If they threw Cousins in there mid-game, the Seahawks would've been lost; it's like bringing in a high 90's MPH relief pitcher after a knuckleballer just threw 7 innings. Nevertheless, Shannahan shouldn't have put the decision in his hands and he should have pulled him. If RG had a problem with that, well too damn bad, kid, it's the way the world works. RG is NOT AD Peterson and if he tore his ACL, he will never be the same. Not only will it take a couple years for him to get back to top speed - and he will take numerous more hard hits while he's at 75% - the team will be much more cautious with him given what they gave up for him. Without the running element and real play action threat off the spread option, RG is just an average to below average pocket passer with his accuracy and long delivery. I've been saying it all along and after today everyone will see it: RG is the THIRD best rookie QB this year. First is Andrew Luck, a DISTANT second is Russell Wilson and an even more distant third is RG.

RGIII has always seemed very self-centered. After he beat Drew Brees, all he could talk about is how Brees told him he was proud of him. After Russell Wilson beat Tom Brady, he said something along the lines of what an honor it was to compete against him.

And to anyone saying Wilson won't last long either, think about their body types and play styles once more. RGIII seems to compare to Vick. He has a lanky body, was staring down receivers ALL night, and running is at least 50% of his game. Wilson, at least partially due to his height, has a very compact body with a low center of gravity. He also looks to pass first every time. Even when he gets outside of the pocket, his eyes are down the field until he crosses the line of scrimmage. Wilson will be a star for a long time in this league.
