Rice’s ability to make Flacco look good helps Ravens to lead

OK, emotion is all well and good, but at some point somebody’s going to have to play football.

The Ravens lead the Colts 10-6 tie at halftime, in a game that somebody’s going to have to win for the right to get shelled by the Broncos next week.

Neither quarterback is playing particularly well at the moment, but Ravens running back Ray Rice just took another short Joe Flacco pass and turned it into a long run, reminiscent of his fourth-and-29 conversion against the Chargers. Fullback Vonta Leach scored the game’s only touchdown on the next play for the lead.

The Colts are playing a tight game, with quarterback Andrew Luck having some rookie moments. He’s lost a fumble and threw an interception that Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis just dropped, ┬ábut he just moved his team into position for a 52-yard Adam Vinatieri field goal as time expired.

If the game is this close in the final moments, there’s no doubt which quarterback you trust more.

This is playoff football, I don’t know what you’re talking about. Unlike last night you don’t get much of a sense about who is going to win. Setting up to be a classic in the second half. Who wants it more is going to win.

Did you notice the scoreboard says “Colts” and not “Indy?” Guess you can’t hold a grudge forever.

Another offensive explosion. 16 total points.

Flacco is an elite QB, just ask him.

How can you pay a quarterback 14 plus million dollars when his running back makes him look good? Learn from Houston and do not overpay an average at best quarterback. Your salary cap cannot take it.

Rice is the greatest RB of all time! I was balling like a baby when Lewis ran onto the field, even though he is washed up guy can still dance! Waving my pom poms all day today

    “get shelled by the Broncos”?

Are you kidding me? The Broncos are the most overrated team in the league; They got their asses kicked against the three best teams they faced this year – I don’t care how many garbage TDs they score. Oh yeah, they have a losing record against teams with a winning record.

Let’s not forget they play in easily the worse division in football; had it not been for the horrible Chargers blowing a 24 point lead, they’d be playing this weekend.

I can’t wait till they get destroyed either next week or the following week by the pats!

These games suck. There is nothing more boring than Baltimore Raven football.

  9. scoobies05 says: Jan 6, 2013 3:11 PM

defense playing great…offense getting in gear…flacco making big plays. i guess boldin made him look good on that perfect sideline pass. nice catch q. and with the game on the line i will take flacco over the very good rookie playing his first playoff game. lets go ravens

Ravens to the superbowl, and to anyone at the game I will be outside the main gate after the game if you have any spare change please help me out

Dude’s fumbled twice. He can’t even make himself look good.

Yeah, the “greatest RB of all time” doesn’t put the ball on the ground 2 times in a playoff game!

the Colts have paper thin defense against the deep ball…. and it’s probably going to decide this game…

I don’t agree that Luck is doing rookie stuff… he looks like a 5th year QB out there, pretty impressive… long term, he’s the real deal, no question

You have a very misguided view of an ass kicking. The broncos lost to both the texans and falcons by one score. If you had watched either if their three losses you would know that they were in all of those games. The broncos were not outmatched by anybody this year and can hang with anybody in the nfl. Btw all those losses came early in year. With a new defensive coordinator and a qb coming off neck surgery and Into a new system, yea I’d say that’s a big deal.

Wow what an abrasive title to this article. Looks like despite all the haters, the ravens and Joe Flacco look good and will not be “1 and done”

  16. scoobies05 says: Jan 6, 2013 3:44 PM

no doubt luck is a future superstar. he has a chance to be an all time great. but today is ravens…good call on indy secondary. flacco boldin pierce and the whole d playing great. colts have had a great season. if it ends today they have nothing to be ashamed of.

  17. selbyrj82 says: Jan 6, 2013 3:45 PM

Your argument for denver being the most overrated team is nice in theory, except for the fact that 3 short weeks the ravens were embarrassed by Denver on their own field. So, yes, Denver may well be overrated. But there is no reason to believe they will not be playing still in 2 weeks.

  18. nattypoes says: Jan 6, 2013 3:48 PM

Right, Rice’s 2 fumbles, including one inside the Colts 11 yard line are doing wonders for Flacco. That 50 yard dime pass to Boldin and that 30 yard TD pass to Boldin were all Ray Rice.

  19. smokingconch says: Jan 6, 2013 3:49 PM

Man, Redskins vs Seahawks is going to have to be life changing to make up for these first 3 terrible games.

  20. bleed4philly says: Jan 6, 2013 3:51 PM

Anyone calling the broncos overrated is an idiot. They annihilated the ravens in Baltimore and they’re going to do it again next week.

  21. deathonwings410 says: Jan 6, 2013 3:55 PM

How is he making Flacco look good when he’s fumbled the ball twice? Flacco and Boldin are making him look less bad today, IMO. Just sayin’.

  22. ravenator says: Jan 6, 2013 4:20 PM

Victory! Keep on hating Steeler fans, you all are so sad. Was your team even playing this weekend? Oh maybe that 8-8 record had something to do with it.

  23. 49ersandshivabowl says: Jan 6, 2013 4:21 PM

Aside from some sweet passes from Flacco to Bolden….that game was gross to watch and was only slightly better than that snooze in Houston.

PLEASE….’Skins and ‘Hawks show us some real playoff football.

  24. jiggy3198 says: Jan 6, 2013 4:57 PM

Actually some people make sense. I’m tired of everyone hating Joe Flacco. What did he do again he won. That’s all he does. And Ray Rice fumbled twice where are the rice haters. We will have none. It wasn’t his fault. I’m tired of it.

  25. The Buffer Zone says: Jan 6, 2013 5:11 PM

Right- continue to blame Flacco & not the O-Line…

34 out of 35 sacks he took this year came within 2.5 seconds…it’s foolish to make such claims without paying attention to all positions.

Too many reporters these days gained their knowledge from playing “Madden Football” on their Xbox and don’t know how to evaluate a TEAM.

  26. Nofoolnodrool says: Jan 6, 2013 5:14 PM

Hey I like rice usually fried rice but sometimes Pilaf is good…don’t cry jiggly please…and don’t hold back it will give you gas.

  27. scoobies05 says: Jan 6, 2013 5:21 PM

in a close game there is no doubt i would go with the qb that has made 5 straight playoff appearances and won playoff games every year. could you try to be an objective writer and not be such an obvious raven hater

  28. dgcaz says: Jan 6, 2013 5:30 PM

I specifically wrote “garbage time td” – they were way behind in those games, and scored late to make them closer than they actually were; was it 31-3 against NE?.. And don’t give me this crap about Manning coming off neck surgery, he has played well ALL year … he’s not the reason they lost; although I give you his three ints against Atlanta. Yes, I actually did watch all the games.

I wish I lived in your world, where we can magically ignore losses because they “came early in the year.” It just so happens it was against their three toughest opponents. There only good win was against a Ravens team at rock bottom… They will get stomped at home against NE, or Houston

  29. dgcaz says: Jan 6, 2013 5:35 PM

Oh yeah, you Denver fans get to watch something special this year… Peyton Manning underachieving and choking in the big games!!!

You Indy and TN fans know what I’m talking about… And those Indy teams that lost, except the one where he won a Super Bowl because NE gave it to him, were a hell of a lot better than this Broncos team.

  30. deathonwings410 says: Jan 6, 2013 6:37 PM

ravens are gonna have to play an almost perfect game to beat the broncos…and then they’d still likely come up short. but it’s the playoffs and anything can happen.
