Seahawks rally in second, trail 14-13 at halftime

Seahawks Rice pulls down a first half pass against Redskins safety Griffin Reuters

After three games that fell somewhere short of thrilling to open the playoffs, we could be on the verge of a little more excitement at FedEx Field.

The Redskins lead 14-13 at halftime after the Seahawks rallied back from an early 14-0 deficit to draw within one on a Steve Hauschka field goal just before the half. Hauschka hurt his left ankle at some point in the first half and punter Jon Ryan handled the kickoff after Michael Robinson’s touchdown catch, but the kicker was able to hit the 29-yard chip shot despite the pain in his plant leg.

Marshawn Lynch made the play of the half for the Seahawks when he scooped up a Russell Wilson fumble for an 18-yard gain that allowed them to drive for Robinson’s touchdown. It was a risky play by Lynch as he avoided the oft-repeated maxim to just fall on the ball, but it worked out for Seattle and helped them turn the tide of the game. An interception by safety Earl Thomas on a deep throw by Robert Griffin III on the next drive also helped on that account.

The half wound up fairly evenly split as the ‘Skins dominated the first 15 minutes, outgaining the Seahawks 129-9, and the Seahawks controlled the next 15 by gaining 172 yards to just 11 for the Redskins. It adds up to a tight game and, hopefully, a second half that continues to make this the most compelling viewing of Wild Card weekend.

I’ll be here celebrating a Redskins win in about an hour. Seahawk fans will go back to hiding in irrelevance. No worries.

Finally a good game this weekend.

  3. flavordave says: Jan 6, 2013 6:09 PM

Its clear that the Redskins defense has been figured out. And RG3? Well hes no Patrick Ramsey. Not even a Heath Miller. Skins are doomed.

  4. finsphan says: Jan 6, 2013 6:10 PM

skins fans not trash talking anymore haha, they know they don’t have momentum going into the second half. uh oh!

  5. cardslifer says: Jan 6, 2013 6:10 PM

I almost want the 4skins to win so I don’t have to listen to ignorant people complain about Seattle got lucky on 65 plays, especially Nancy Kerrigans most recent pick. Nice toss though. Had a string on that noodle armed ball.

  6. flavordave says: Jan 6, 2013 6:10 PM

Hawks will roll the 2nd half like they have the past month. I wish I could be there to hand MeAngelo Hall a box of Kleenex.

  7. gogetembolts says: Jan 6, 2013 6:10 PM

  8. rg3isvictory says: Jan 6, 2013 6:11 PM

Now this is the game I was waiting for. I and most logical fans knew The hawks were not coming into DC and crushing us. The winner of ROY is on that field and I believe this game will be a determining factor! This could be a great back and forth game if RG3 stays healthy!!!

  9. sanchock says: Jan 6, 2013 6:11 PM

Might have to put cousins in if rg3 is as limited as he looked last time out.

  10. vegagreenleaf says: Jan 6, 2013 6:12 PM

Hopefully the Hawks can pull one out. Great game!

  14. finsphan says: Jan 6, 2013 6:16 PM

One thing all top rookie qb’s have in common, not just a promising future, but they all have white girlfriends! rob parker hates it.

  15. fumblenuts says: Jan 6, 2013 6:17 PM

Hawks are a great 2nd half team, sometimes they take a little while to get the beast warmed up……..

  16. beastmode5150 says: Jan 6, 2013 6:19 PM

And the skins are relevant? Lol

  17. adlent says: Jan 6, 2013 6:20 PM

I said this in another thread, but damn I wish RGIII was healthy. It is great watching Wilson running around with explosion and making solid throws. Hopefully, no matter the outcome, we can get some more matchups between these QBs!

  18. thereisalwaysnextyear says: Jan 6, 2013 6:22 PM

These officials need to call the face masks ect on Seahawks db. That guy was out of control in the first half and no calls.

Looks like it doesn’t matter who wins this one, as bad as they are beating each other up it’s going to be a banged up crew limping into Atlanta.

  29. BeachBum46 says: Jan 6, 2013 6:39 PM

Look out foreskin fans, Seattle is definitely playing better ball than the foreskins are. The tides about to turn! Bob is not a pocket passer and it’s showing up big time now!

31-27 Hawks, PFT you mine as well hire me.

  37. jessethegreat says: Jan 6, 2013 6:46 PM

    Steviaquinn,

You do realize you’re talking about the atlanta falcons, don’t you?

You know those Atlanta falcons that don’t show up for the playoffs? You could play a joe Webb led chiefs team in the playoffs and Maddy ice would be just that: Ice Cold!

  38. bucslose says: Jan 6, 2013 6:51 PM

That fumble at the goalline by Seattle could prove very costly. They wouldve had a lot of momentum after that AND the lead. Their only saving grace could be an very injured RG3.

  39. bucslose says: Jan 6, 2013 6:53 PM

Skins need to put in Cousins. RG3’s injuries are holding back their team. Putting this all on the Defense at this point when you have a good back up QB is irresponsible and stupid.

  40. hankhillspropanetank says: Jan 6, 2013 6:56 PM

Seadderall might pull this out, their uncanny ability to stay focused and study in film study might pay off with a busted coverage

Skins fans can start to see it slowly slip away.

    Hahahaha

Boy, RG3 really blew this one

  47. ninerdynasty says: Jan 6, 2013 7:05 PM

Skins are throwing the game away. RG3 has to be taken out, that knee is killing him…. he can’t run, he is missing easy throws… sure looks like he can’t even put much weight on that leg.. .

  58. finsphan says: Jan 6, 2013 7:11 PM

that looked like an acl tear. I hope he is ok. your great rg3 but without your legs, sorry bud but your no Dan Marino with no legs, your just average. shannahan is going to ruin this kids career for his own personnel gain

RGIII is no doubt a great player, but without his legs he is just mediocre at best.

  82. westclaims says: Jan 6, 2013 7:40 PM

Sure seems like there is a lot of drama in these playoffs. Arians rushed to the hospital (in front of the team apparently), Ponder whiffs, Packers roll, RGIII does great early on, takes a dive (watch the replay), hugs his coach, Ray Lewis gets to dance twice in the game.

A lot of drama for one weekend of playoff football, don’t you think?
