Trent Williams punctuates frustrating day with hand to Richard Sherman’s face

Sherman Getty Images

After the Seahawks closed out a 24-14 win that featured 24 unanswered points after falling into a 14-point hole, Redskins tackle Trent Williams let his frustrations get the better of him.

FOX cameras showed Williams shoving his hand into the face of Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman after the game.

Though it doesn’t excuse Williams’ behavior, the notoriously talkative Sherman seemed to be saying plenty to the Redskins and their sideline during the game.  And Sherman likely was talking a lot after the game ended.

For Sherman, it’s time to start getting under the skin of Falcons players.  For Williams, it’s time to wait for word from the league office regarding whatever fine may be imposed on him.

emotions run high…especially when you blow a 14 point lead and let the other team steamroll you.

  3. bucrightoff says: Jan 6, 2013 7:51 PM

Richard Sherman yaps, but he can play. Notice he didn’t get mentioned all game? Cause he was locking his guy down. Him and Revis are the best in the league.

  4. stampnhawk says: Jan 6, 2013 7:51 PM

Can see where some the Redskins fans get that lack of class. Never seen that pathetic display after a game when there are handshakes.

  5. changeup39 says: Jan 6, 2013 7:51 PM

I hate Richard Sherman. Seattle was getting absolutely destroyed until RG3 got hurt. Whatever happened to winning with class?

  6. osoviejo says: Jan 6, 2013 7:52 PM

Apparently this is the first time Trent Williams has seen trash talk in the NFL.

  7. timebandit24 says: Jan 6, 2013 7:52 PM

Prime example of Washington class, or lack there of. Win with no character, lose with even less.

  8. mi6agent says: Jan 6, 2013 7:52 PM

Trent Williams should have asked Bill Romonowski for technique to shove his hand on Sherman’s face (the Marcus Williams style). Sherman deserves every bit of it!

  9. truthfactory says: Jan 6, 2013 7:53 PM

The Redskins have deangelo hall talkin smack and getting in peoples faces all game. Get over it

  10. fuglyflorio says: Jan 6, 2013 7:53 PM

One-and-done Skins can’t even keep their composure after killing the NFC East’s Superbowl chances. What a worthless Division winner. Blowing it to a wildcard team. Pathetic.

  11. tatum064 says: Jan 6, 2013 7:53 PM

What a goof. Fun to see the rivalry, and its not like DeAngelo Hall doesnt run his mouth, either.

Those teams dont like each other…should be an excellent NFC championship if Seattle advances vs. Green Bay or S.F.

  12. newenglandsports11 says: Jan 6, 2013 7:53 PM

Richard Sherman is like Cortland Finnegan 2.0 They both are great CB’s but they are also agitators . Someone needs to stick up to the bully.

Sorry, but Sherman is MUCH better than Finnegan.

Sherman talks smack because he has the talent to back it up.

Finnegan talks smack because agitation helps disguise his lack of talent.

  17. eastcoastniner says: Jan 6, 2013 7:59 PM

NewEngland, well said. I wish a TE or lineman would do a seek n destroy mission on these blowhards on some running play.

  18. kattykathy says: Jan 6, 2013 7:59 PM

Seattle beat down GB once this season and the Cheesehead nation cried and whined like biatches.

Can’t wait till they do it again and knock out Rodgers like they did RG

  19. vmannj says: Jan 6, 2013 7:59 PM

We already knew the Seahawks couldn’t lose with class (whining after the Super Bowl), now we know they can’t win with class either.

Use a 1st rd pick on an armed robber. Two defensive starters suspended for steroids. Petey, that’s one heck of a program you’ve got going on there in Seattle – kind like the dirty program you ran away from at USC as soon as the NCAA came calling.

  20. supremekingz says: Jan 6, 2013 8:01 PM

Sherman does run his mouth a lot but he does back it up. He’s always going to be a cheater in my eyes, but I can’t wait to see how those monstrous 6’3 and 6’4 corners are going to matchup with 6’3 Julio Jones and 6′+ Roddy White.

  21. eastcoastniner says: Jan 6, 2013 8:03 PM

Seahawks might be good but they have no class in victory stemming from their no class cheater coach who ran away from USC when his transgressions were exposed.

And for someone who got off a suspension by some bs technicality, Sherman sure jaws alot.

  22. tangfish says: Jan 6, 2013 8:03 PM

Talk trash + back it up = Richard Sherman

Fail + sore losing = Redskins

Russell Wilson last of three still in it to win it = ROY

  23. vuudu says: Jan 6, 2013 8:03 PM

Sherman will be a Jets in a few years time.

  24. stull60060 says: Jan 6, 2013 8:04 PM

I ‘m not a fan of either team. If anyone needs his face punched in it’s Deangelo Hall. I saw him trash talking the Seattle receivers all game. Trouble is they were beating him left and right. He likes to talk but he can’t back it up with his play. He’s a loser.

  25. Andre's Johnson says: Jan 6, 2013 8:04 PM

Richard Sherman is a seriously good football player, but at some point he needs to just shut his mouth. Sportsmanship still counts for something.

  26. cosmo83 says: Jan 6, 2013 8:04 PM

Pathetic Seahawk fans, you barely beat a team with a one leg QB, talk trash the whole game, hit people late, and have the nerve to call skins players classless. Look in the mirror. You loser coach is the definition of classless. Go Falcons!!!

  27. stevemo says: Jan 6, 2013 8:04 PM

Sherman is a classless punk. Maybe we’ll get to see Andre Johnson teach him a thing or two next month.

  28. Mr. Wright 212 says: Jan 6, 2013 8:04 PM

That’s what you goofy Skins fans get. And Williams has been dirty since he came out of school. Sherman backs up the talk, Williams is just tight because they got soundly beaten after that fluky start. Skins fans were SILENT in the 2nd half, after acting like the game was over early ha.

  29. nomoreseasontix says: Jan 6, 2013 8:05 PM

At least MeAngelo Hall knows better than to run his yap while within reach of a guy.

  30. Mr. Wright 212 says: Jan 6, 2013 8:05 PM

And I love Skins fans co-signing Williams, when Hall, Fletcher and others on that team talk so much more and don’t even back it up (other than Fletcher, who is all world).

  31. dirtyharry44 says: Jan 6, 2013 8:07 PM

Love how you all are hating on Sherman. Fans love to hate the premier player on the other team – the ultimate fan compliment.
    GO HAWKS!!!!

  32. gochargersgo says: Jan 6, 2013 8:10 PM

seems like a bunch of butt-hurt skins fans on here. He talks trash. So what? No excuse for smacking a guy in the face, especially after the game is over. It was pretty clear trent williams was instigating a bunch during the game as well. He was also involved in last years brawl.

  33. rs2driver says: Jan 6, 2013 8:11 PM

Kyle Shanahan EPIC play calling fail. You run qb sweeps and bootlegs with a one legged quarterback. You HAVE THE LEAD and do NOT use your 1600yd hammer? Kyle Shanahan… moron of the highest order. Your 1600yd hammer gets how many 2nd half carries? Enough talk of the youngin’s knee. Not utilizing #46 cost Washington the game…period.

  34. Mr. Wright 212 says: Jan 6, 2013 8:13 PM

  38. orivar says: Jan 6, 2013 8:19 PM

Redskins got to a fast start however I honestly don’t think it would of continued even with a healthy Griffin. Seattle made nice in game adjustments after the second touchdown. The moment they went from making little ground to being able to move down the field and hit the FG, it was evident that they weren’t going to allow the game to be one-sided.

Not evident that they were going to win but that they were adjusting and getting back into the game.

  39. sincityhawk says: Jan 6, 2013 8:20 PM

Listen up Skin fans, that final injury to RGIII was be ause of your pathetic cow pasture field. Your own franchise decided to dry the field out and make it slower because of the Seahawks speed and that took your boy down. It took the Seahawks best DE out and hindered our Kicker. That was a disgrace for a football field.

Seattle didn’t win cuz RGIII was hurt, they won because they made adjustments to Morris running the ball.

  43. riverhorsey says: Jan 6, 2013 8:28 PM

Sherman’s not so smart for running his mouth with his helmet off. Did he really think the hostilities would cease just because the game was over?

Skins would of crushed them w a healthy RG3

  44. Mr. Wright 212 says: Jan 6, 2013 8:28 PM

A number of Giants players have torn up their knees on that field. So has the greatest RB that most of us have ever seen with our own eyes. And that’s twice now that Bob has hurt that knee on this field. Snyder should spend more money on a decent turf instead of whining about being outed for illicit overloading of contracts two years ago.

Sherman is one of the best, no doubt, but man is he classless. I’m sure that piece, Pete Carroll, encourages him. I really hope that matt Ryan and company, destroy the Seahawks, all down Richard Shermans throat.

  47. ronaldjones says: Jan 6, 2013 8:37 PM

I commend Mr. Williams for his attack on Sherman. Sherman, a known cheater who slithered out of a PED suspension, is a totally obnoxious punk who is reviled by NFL fans everywhere outside Seattle. Rather than an anomaly, his tactics are representative of the classless franchise who pays him. Outside of the Pacific Northwest, the entire nation wishes Sherman and the Seahawks nothing but the absolute worst next weekend in Atlanta.

  48. salutethis says: Jan 6, 2013 8:38 PM

So how much of a rivalry is there between these two teams? I have not heard anything about the redskins being classless…really ever. And until this year Seattle never came into that light either, at least for me. But that taunting was out of line. Especially when the injury was such the focal point of the game.

  49. mellard1121 says: Jan 6, 2013 8:40 PM

  51. bluebongzilla says: Jan 6, 2013 8:44 PM

  53. orivar says: Jan 6, 2013 8:49 PM

Richard Sherman’s good bye wave was classic. I agree with a comment I read on another site, Richard Sherman is the heel the NFL needs in a league full of people posing to be the ‘good guy’ for endorsements.

This is football, a rough and bloody sport played by men. People only complain about class when something doesn’t go their way. I appreciate the classy players but also appreciate the in your face players, as long as they can back it up with their play. Sherman can!

  54. nflofficeadmin says: Jan 6, 2013 8:52 PM

  55. sweetnlow44 says: Jan 6, 2013 8:54 PM

Poor redskins and their crybaby fans. Can dish it out but can’t take it. Say Sherman’s the one with no class, but hall and garçon are talking and taking cheap shots after every play. Don’t talk trash if you can’t back it up. Sherman can.

  56. orivar says: Jan 6, 2013 8:54 PM

Also people like to bring up the Cortland Finnegan, Andre Johnson incident however fail to realize that Finnegan won.

He was able to frustrate Johnson to the point that he reacted, therefore taking the Texans #1 receiver who at fits in the top 15 active WRs in the league, out of the game.

Yeah. If the Titans weren’t a bad organization all around that could of been highly exploited.

  57. jskelly11 says: Jan 6, 2013 9:01 PM

That field was horrible cost both teams injury’s how can the NFL let a playoff game be played on that mess? They play all year for this chance and the NFL ok’s playing on a cow pasture wow!

  58. dstep24 says: Jan 6, 2013 9:04 PM

Funny how Robert Griffin’s injury is the reason Washington lost, when they still have a healthy Alfred Morris. The problem became Seattle shutting everybody down, leaving the Redskins with no more options, forcing Robert Griffin to have to stand in the pocket and throw, which clearly is not the way he’s supposed to play the game. They exposed his weakness. Wilson was the better of the two quarterbacks tonight. End of story. Atlanta here come the Seahawks. That said, Griffin made some great plays, and he and Wilson will be two of the top young QBs for a number of years. Will be fun to watch these two develop.

I don’t get why the Redskins decided to give Griffin running plays on a bad knee, the guy the Redskins sold the farm to get, but once Cousins gets out there…every play…he’s in the pocket.

I recall a play during the Broncos SB where Terrell Davis could not see and Shanahan put him out there telling TD …you don’t have to see on this next play. It won’t work if you’re not out there.

    Take heed Redskins fans.

  81. cliffordc05 says: Jan 6, 2013 10:43 PM

Based upon the outcome of the game, the only issue of real importance was the condition of the field. It is a disgrace and a menace to the health of the players. Chris Clemons may not be able to play next week and RGIII suffered another potentially serious knee injury and both injuries were due to a substandard playing field. If the NFL is damn serious about players’ health then it should insist that the Redskins upgrade their field.

Sherman’s antics crossed the line after the game and I wish he would tone it down. I noticed that Hall kept jawing even after whiffing on a few tackles.

    @shawnc16

If your green bay is so mighty, why was AR sacked 8 times in 30 minutes? Oh, did you realize also, that he wasnt sacked like that in the second half? Maybe you didnt because packers o line was holding like crazy trying to save AR’s life.

Did you notice in the 3rd qtr, a phantom p.i. call? One that kept a drive alive at the 20 yard line? That led to a green bay td?

Now you want to say that real refs will be there this next game if we me again… thats great, cuz a real ref has never had a debatable call right?

Get over yourselves packer fans… i use to think the packers were alright. But after that game, you guys and your team seem to be the most self indulged people in the football world. Ive never seen a group think they were so entitled to everything. Even the media is on yalls peanuts like crazy.

I like our division rival 49ers more than you guys now. Skins fans have been kinda lame this past week, but i like them more than packers fans. I even like eagles fans more, even tho they throw batteries and cheer Vick getting injured.

I’m not a Seattle fan, but I love Sherman and the way he plays the game. In order to be a successful CB in the league, you have to have a little swagger to you. The best CB ever – Deion Sanders – was all about swagger; he talked crap to team mascots. Sherman talks A LOT, but he ALWAYS backs it up. Rex Ryan should take notice and learn from the kid. When you talk crap, you need to back it up or else you wind up being the butt-end of every joke in the game and you get pictures of your prison tat-quality ink thrown on the cover of every sports section in the US. I’m sure when the Giants play the Seahawks I will dislike Sherman, but for now, I like the guy and I like the way he plays the game.

You Skins fans are delusional. That piece of crap for a corner DeAngelo Hall is widely regarded as the biggest punk in the entire league.

You might not like Sherman’s antics but at least he can back it up.

The whole reason why these teams don’t like one another is because Hall and Williams decided it was cool to curse it up like sailors during the opening coin toss in last season’s match up in front of a young girl who was an honorary captain.

Glad Michael Robinson stepped in and demanded some respect, which DeAngelo didn’t like.

Nice class…maybe when the grounds crew at FedEx Field is getting that joke of a field cleaned up, they’ll find DeAngelo’s jock that Marshawn Lynch shook him out of.

Richard Sherman is giving Seattle flashbacks of Gary Payton and I thoroughly enjoy it. It’s war out there and he isn’t afraid to define his enemies. He’s not trying to play golf in the off-season with everyone. He has a genuine dislike for his opponent.

A lot of guys in the NFL talk, but there aren’t many that translate it to the field the way he has this season.

Redskins fans pulling the “class” angle now, after being heels for the past two months. Who cares that you won the division? What did it benefit you? If you don’t win the Super Bowl, absolutely no one cares but you fans.

And to the guy who acts like the game was close, Seattle stopped themselves with foolish penalties and that fumble. They should have scored about 40. You absolutely got destroyed on your own field, even IF the score doesn’t indicate it.

Trent Williams exposed as a classless punk on national TV. “Apologized publicly” after he realized it might affect his DC-area used-car-lot sponsorship deals.

“But when it comes to these old Chevy Impalas we’re tackling high prices!” Take Williams’ word for it.

I just love how Seahawk fans claim the reason why people hate their team is because they are ‘too good’. Sorry but the Seahawk fanbase is basically why everyone hates that franchise. All season long, it is been non-stop trash talk coming from Washington. Until the Seahawks actually do something worth talking trash about, I suggest you guys put a sock in it before you humiliate yourselves even more.

And yes I am a Packer fan. Go right ahead and bring up that game. It isn’t going to do any good. I could honestly care less about it.

Both of these athletes should be ashamed for the the examples they set. Win and lose with class. no matter how good they are they both are punks.

Now you want to say that real refs will be there this next game if we me again… thats great, cuz a real ref has never had a debatable call right?

Seahawks spend alot more time defending the indefensible call that caused a national outcry and ended the strike than the Packers fans do.

Packers went on to take care of business, win their division, and now are moving on to play the 9ers (a class organization with a professional competitive coach).

Seahawks are a solid team with a smart quarterback and an arrogant childish head coach and a fanbase that feels all victimized by the discussion that followed their undeserved win from the beginning of the season.

By the way, we (packer fans) really have no interest in where we rank on your list of favorite fanbases. Perhaps, with time and success, your head coach may learn to acquire half the dignity, focus and integrity of Mike McCarthy.

Good luck against Atlanta. We will root for you.

Trent Williams has been running his mouth for over a year! You even did a report on how Redskins players were calling Sherman a cheater! Now your writing a article supporting assault.

“Though it doesn’t excuse Williams’ behavior, the notoriously talkative Sherman seemed to be saying plenty to the Redskins and their sideline during the game. And Sherman likely was talking a lot after the game ended.”

I don’t see how Florio still has a job!

Sherman should be fined for starting it not Williams. The league is aware of his behavior (Sherman) its unacceptable especially this picture is complete disrespect to RG3

    ———————————————–

Yeah Sherman was so disrespectful to RGIII he actually had the audacity to go up to him after the game and gave him a huge bear hug while he told him how much he admired him for toughing it out in that game. Sherman might jaw a little more than some like, but he’s a class act when it counts unlike Trent Williams.

Seahawks have such a rich and storied tradition of winning championships and being one of the best franchises in the NFL. At least that what Seahawks fans would have you believe. The fact is the have 7 play off appearences in the last 11 years and only one super bowl appereance and they are have yet to win a championship in 37 years. So honestly they suck as a franchise, that’s why they kept swicthing their conference because they suck so bad nobody cares about them. 12th man my a$$ most NFL franchises sell out and have the same amount of enegry from their fans when they are good. Seahawks most overrated team in the NFL…

  101. rukkus1 says: Jan 7, 2013 9:46 AM

Haha delusions. Raider and 49er fans have gone as far as shooting at a game. At a family event. The mayor of green bay puts pressure on goodell after that seattle game. There was stinkin protests in green bay.

Keep defending your teams and fanbase while you guys’ teams and fans are no better than anyones. Thats exactly what im talking about. Self indulged and a sense of entitlement…

  102. rukkus1 says: Jan 7, 2013 11:08 AM

“They kept switching your conference you suck so bad” haha that is a highly intelligent comment

  103. photomind89 says: Jan 7, 2013 5:18 PM

Keep switching their conference? What? How do you even know how to turn your computer on?

  104. photomind89 says: Jan 7, 2013 5:24 PM

Packer fans are the biggest bunch of Whiney babies ever. As much as we would love to come humiliate you on your lame field, the 9er’s will be the victors and we will meet them at Candlestick. I’ll send you a tissue.

  105. rukkus1 says: Jan 7, 2013 6:59 PM

    Haha thank you photomind.

There will always be an excuse from east coasters when a west coast team dominates. We beat all the so called, “big” teams. Greenbay, New England, Minnesota, Chicago, we even beat our coast 49er’s and many more! We didn’t just beat these teams, most of them we crushed. Make all the excuses you want. Blame whatever. Bottom line, the Hawks deserve the respect. They are a solid team and we are young. It will be this way for a long time. As far as our fans? Can you hear us now???? GO HAWKS!

The only team the Seahawks crushed were the 49ers. They beat the Packers by two, the Patriots by one and the Bears in overtime. Not exactly ‘crushing’ their opponents.
