Players often say before big games that they’ve tuned out the media and are focused solely on the upcoming opponent. But as Texans running back Arian Foster prepares to face the Patriots on Sunday, he’s very much paying attention to what the media say about the Texans.
Specifically, Foster noticed that Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy ripped the Texans in a column that said the Patriots essentially have a second bye week with the Texans coming to town.
“Could this get any easier? I mean, seriously? The planets are aligned and the tomato cans are in place,” Shaughnessy wrote. “The fraudulent Houston Texans are the only team standing between the New England Patriots and a trip to the AFC Championship game. All the Patriots have to do is beat the terrible Texans.”
So Foster decided to turn that quote into bulletin board material by making an image of those words his new Twitter avatar. Patriots coach Bill Belichick has said New England’s regular season win over Houston doesn’t mean anything, but Foster clearly wants his teammates to know that some folks in New England believe the Patriots are about to win another blowout. We’ll see on Sunday if the Texans can prove Shaughnessy wrong.
