Getty ImagesCowboys owner Jerry Jones said last week that there were going to be changes to the team this offseason and reports indicate that the first one has been made.
Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that running backs coach Skip Peete has been relieved of his duties. Peete had been with the Cowboys since 2007 and, per Hill, was surprised by the move.
The reason for his surprise is that starting running back DeMarco Murray missed a big chunk of the season with a foot injury, the second straight year that Murray was sidelined by injury, and that the offensive line performed poorly all season. That contributed to a team record for the fewest rushing yards in a 16-game season and an observation from Garrett during his postmortem on the season that the team needed to be more effective running the ball.
Jones promised to make things “uncomfortable” around the organization. Peete’s departure might be making other assistants a little tenser, but the changes will have to keep coming for the Cowboys to show serious improvement come next season.

Oh yeah, getting real uncomfortable in Dallas!
I expect this earth shattering change will headline Sportscenter.
Typical Jerry GM move. Fire the guy who doesn’t deserve it and stick with those not getting it done. As a Skins fan I have to say I like it. Keep the Head Coach, QB and GM in place! I’m sure he’ll make some other goat sacrifice to show “change” and they will be the same ol’ Cowboys. Great news!
Wow saw the headline and thought Jerry was stepping down as GM. Silly me!!
Stupidity.
It’s a move just to say you’re making a move. Makes no football sense.
If my car breaks down (Garrett/Romo) you don’t go out and burn your motorcycle to the ground to teach the car a lesson.
Wait, is this supposed to make Romo play better?
The G.M. who didn’t improve the offensive line, fires the Running Backs coach. Hokay.
Injuries and a bad OL .. Fire the RB coach. Ladies and gentlemen, YOUR Dallas Cowboys.
Not convinced this move will exactly put them on the road to the super bowl but I guess it’s a start.
Their running game leaves a lot to be desired but I’m not sure what Peete had to do with it not working. Since the O line coach, Calahan, was hired this year and Jerry loves him some Jason, Peete was the guy to take the fall.
hmmm
that is not going to solve the problem
gotta move up and draft a new QB
So fire the guy who had the least effect on this moving disaster? Not the GM that didn’t get o-line depth or other depth, especially on defense?
Tony Romo is made of paper (too wimpy and weak). He has to go.
The running game was actually good.
Random firings always result in employee’s being uncomfortable. Goal accomplished.
“gotta move up and draft a new QB”
———————————————————
There really aren’t good QBs in this draft. In regards to the firing, the Cowboys haven’t had a 1,000 yard rusher since, I believe, Julius Jones and Smith before that. To gain a 1,000 yards = 63 yards a game, not too impressive if healthy.
The people who should go are the OC and HC = Garrett, as well as Special Teams.
That’s like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
It’s still Going Down Baby!!!!!
What a change, wait till next, all the way
Jerry, fire that idiot you hired as a GM.
I truly hope Romo does get traded. For Romo’s sake.
Then all those clown fans can remember all the good times of Drew Henson, Quincy Carter, Drew Bledsoe and Vinny Testaverde.
Wonder how big the Cowboys would have wipped the skins by had Romo threw f0r 100 yards like RG3 did in that game?
But yea, totally his fault. ****Eyeroll.***
there is no P.R. nightmare above an in-effective GM … but as long as he owns the team … I guess he can play with the Team like it’s his own personal ToyBox.
Tiki is not even close to flabbergasted……
I didn’t think Jerry was going to make a bold move…but letting Skip Peete go, whew.
Seriously…Skip Peete was the reason they have 1 playoff win in forever?
Jerry needs to focus higher up the ladder than a running backs coach.
Memo to Jerry: You’re the problem.

I suggest you worry about your team and the fact that paper mache Bob won’t be ready for the start of next season and the coach who might have ended his career before it even started. Once again you are left with thereisalwaysnextyear. Aha hhhaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
FTR!!!
This is just the tip of the iceberg—look for the Equipment Manager and locker room guys to be gone next.
Inconsistent play at quarterback. Dissent in the locker room. Players getting in trouble off the field. I bet Jerry Jones is going to really shake things up now – by firing the team equipment manager. Go get ‘em, Jerry!
Been with the team since 2007. Do you know how many 1000 yard rushers they’ve had since 2007? ZERO. This does not address the underlying problem of Jerry the GM refusing to address the needs on the O-line, but at least Jerry the owner feels better now.
Quit hating people. First change, not the last. Running game hasn’t done jack diddly in his tenure. why not try something else out. But I always thought the running game was lacking due to Garret’s play calling. Either way, I like the move.
Whew, thought the guy that cleans Jerry’s glasses may be in trouble for a second.
If the cowboys were smart they would hire maurice carthon from the chiefs staff that was just let go. Solid rb coach.
Word on the street is all the waterboys and the groundskeeper are dead men walking.
Best way to make things uncomfortable in Dallas is to play a December game.

As a skins fan, shouldn’t you be more worried that your organization just ran your “franchise QB’s” career down the drain instead of commenting on Cowboys posts?
You know how golfers fire caddies when they start hitting it anywhere but where it’s supposed to go? By this logic, Wade Wilson, John Garrett, and Wes Phillips will be gone before senior bowl. #jerryjoneslogic
Get rid of Wade Wilson and hire David Lee again..

Inconsistent play at QB?
Only Cowboys QB to throw for 4000 yards, has done it 4 times in six seasons of being starting QB on opening day.
25,700 yards and 177 tD’s in six full seasons as a starter while completing 65% of his passes while in that time the Cowboys have had One 1000 yard rusher.
So you don’t watch much footbalhuh?l
GM doesn’t know diddly about football
Coach is a thoroughly unaccomplished yes-man
O-line stinks
Defense has no depth
Star WR beats on his mama
DC waves his arms and shouts a lot but doesn’t actually coach well
QB known for throwing the ball to the other guys and being more concerned with his golf game and semi-shaven appearance
So you fire the RB coach, who’s done the best he can with what the incompetent GM has given him.
That’s not to say that the RB coach is himself competent (after all, he coaches for that GM), but why is he the fall guy, or at least the first fall guy?
one of the best storied teams in the nfl stuck with the egomaniac
As long as pick-six Romo is still there nothing is changing in Dallas.
